"The family tradition has always been for when a dragon comes of age, they leave their home clan, move to a place where they can develop their magic, and start their own clan!" Her father had told her this countless times, yet she still didn't understand what it meant that they could never talk again. "But dad, why can't I come to visit after I have my clan established? It won't take long!" It was Sereina's day to finally leave, but she wanted to try at least one last time before she left. It was the same argument as always... When Sereina first left her home in the Mirrorlight Promenade she figured that all would go according to her plan, she would meet a fellow astronomer, find a suitable territory to settle in and begin to chart the stars and constellations of this region. She certainly did not expect to crash into another dragon and fall into the remains of an unknown ruin. The dragon she crashed into called herself Sally and apologized profusely for the trouble. She said that she did not notice the pearlcatcher because she was too busy looking for "That pesky little bug" who had run away from familiar training "again." Sally was unharmed, but Sereina had a sprained wing, nothing major, but enough to keep her from flying. Sally responded with her (soon to be characteristic) optimism, "Well, then I guess you're just going to have to stay with me until you're all better! Ooooh, it's going to be so fun having someone around!" Sally looks back over her shoulder already leading Sereina towards a small hut on the cliff's edge."I hope you like familiars!" Sereina did not care for the familiars, but she did care for Sally. Every day that she spent with her, it felt as if more of her burdens were lifted off her shoulders. As her wing recovered, she became overwhelmed with the fear of having to leave and lose the only other dragon that she had ever been comfortable around. On her "Last night surprise!" as Sally called it, they had dinner under the stars, and finally, Sereina read what the stars had been trying to tell her for all this time, that she was meant to stay here, with the dragon that she loved and live a happy life with the dragon that truly understood her, Sally. She told this to Sally, and she was overjoyed and admitted that she didn't want her to leave either. They built a life with and around each other, making room for the many familiars that Sally cared for and building an observatory for Sereina. That's how her story ends, with the union of a happy couple and the promise of many more years of happy days. May the stars ever be in your favor, lonely traveler. | xxxxx |
