Biography
"Idealism sits prison, chivalry
fell on it's sword. Innocence died screaming,
honey ask me I should know. I slithered here
from Eden just to sit outside your door"

◆PROFILE ════════════════════ » Captain of the Pathfinder » He/Him » Sea Serpent » Ex-owner of two air-ships both perished to fire » Proficient in ship building ◆TRINKETS ════════════════════ ◆RELATIONS ═════════════════════ |
◆LORE ═════════════════════ Flotsam and jetsam and debris from the wreckage swirled around him. Wooden planks float across the water and Eden wades through its depths. They are in the middle of no where and on a moonless night, have run aground. Eden has lived his whole life aboard a ship and knows these waters. He could plot their position on any map with one glance at the stars. He knows that they are over a trench deeper than the nearest continents tallest mountain. He knows that if you sink out here, you and your ship will never been seen again- forever lost to an endless uncaring gloom that the sun has never touched. He knows the its not possible to run aground out here. And yet. He was only a boy the last time they ran aground, the first time he ever experienced it in fact. They'd ended up in a bay a bit too small for their ship after getting put off course by a vicious storm and had an annoyed harbour master to deal with after but the sound. The sound of the ships hull scraping and shuddering against sand and rocks had been unforgettable. So here, above the deep uncaring trench, they have run aground. The list of the ship makes navigating the crew quarters a challenge but as Eden makes his way above deck he can't see any rushing water from a breach in the hull nor any calls to abandon ship. Ducking his head, Eden dodges frantic crew members and peers over the side of the ship. Staring down, the dark water swirls with debris and a concerning amount of bubbles. The dark abyss offers no explanation for its odd behaviour and Eden can only feel a deep resignation settle over him. There's nothing for it, he ties a rope off to the mast and rappels down the side. He hesitates for one still moment above the water before slipping the rest of the way down and landing with a splash. The sea remains solid beneath his feet, texture-less and tepid, it feels like he's stood on nothing. A feeling of pure distilled unease floods over him and nearly leaves him skittering back up the side of the ship before he's able to settle himself again. He has a job to do after all. Eden turns on his heel and sets off towards the bow of the ship, wading past detritus to check if the hull is salvageable. He makes it to her bow, running a hand along the rough wood of her hull, careful to avoid the rough edge of barnacles before he spots it. Sometimes, when they visit the murkier ports down south near those great factories that throw up enough smoke to blot out the sun, the water changes colour. It does in most ports with all the vessels coming and going, stirring up the sea bed into a murky brown or greenish grey. But in those southern ports the water goes black, and the surfaces seems to shimmer with reds and pinks and blues and greens. Oilslick. A filthy rainbow. It just barely catches his eye but when it does, Eden can't believe he didn't notice it before. In the distance, rising like smoke, is a wall of it. Not just sitting on the water but dozens of brilliant, dazzling colours swimming off into the sky. Endless, unbroken, incomprehensible. Eden can't even see the ocean waves he knows lie beyond. Spanning the horizon from east to west, rising out of nothing, uncaring of its impossibility, is a shifting miasma of colour and light. Eden stares. ============ notes: -parents died when he was like 2 or 3. a super distant relative of his was the only one willing to take him in, not blood relation and she isnt really cut out for raising a child but! she tries sorta? -joins her on his first vessel aged 5 spends until age 14/15 sailing the world with them! has a carefree attitude about life, thinks hes faced it all with his rough upbringing and worldly knowledge. nothing can bring him down -boundary happens - he washes onto unfamiliar sea shore and is nursed back to health. a kind family take him and show him first glimpse of normal family life, with young siblings and mundane chores. he transforms for the first time and accidentally kills people. the village he was staying with fear him and hunt him down. trying to kill him - he flees barely avoiding getting killed and a bounty is put out on him essentially. warning others that he is a monster in disguise and he gets driven out of towns repeatedly. cant find a safe place for any meaningful amount of time. and spends months like this before a fire that triggers a port explosion (think chase scene with eden transformed and lots of flaming pitchforks) that again, kills people. eden is injured and beset by guilt, he loses himself and flees into the sea. - he spends several years semi feral, living on uninhabited islands and scaring small fishing vessels. |
