Biography
x |
Chell tracked the Beast across Sornieth, finally cornering it in the Tangled Wood. However, she quickly learned that the Beast was trapped in a lair in the Foxfire Bramble. The Queen had a choice to make: stay here and ensure the Beast's capture, or return to the Southern Icefield and risk putting all of Sornieth in danger. She chose to stay, and the course of her life changed forever. Many years have passed; since then, she has gotten married and raised a family. But the quest to destroy the Beast is slowly crushing her, weakening her. Chell fears that if she falls, there will be no one left to protect the land. She doesn't permit herself even a moment of weakness- and so the pressure builds and builds, pushing her closer to her inevitable collapse. |

Being crowned queen came only with the best of the best, and her parents would never say otherwise. Glittering golds and yellows sparkled in all corners of the room, smiling faces and cheering crowds surrounded her like a wave of dragons. Soft velvet dampened the footsteps under her, as red as a stream of glimmering rubies as the tinkling of the small crystals hanging from the grand chandeliers rang overhead. Her robes, a deep purple, hugged her arms as if knowing her fears and comforting her. She was the centre of everyone’s attention. The beloved princess, soon to be crowned queen. Her entire birthright, about to be given to her in mere minutes. Her mother was counting on her, and so was the rest of the Solstice Kingdom. She stepped up onto the stage, facing her mother, the queen. She smiled down at her, her eyes twinkling with joy and pride; Chell's heart swelled just seeing it. The two of them turned to look at the dragons watching intently. Faces blended together like watercolour on napkins; forest greens, icy silvers, and dull oranges all flooded her vision, all there to see the new queen. To see her. Giddy with excitement, the feeling of uncertainty all but dissipated. She was going to be their queen, and with it, she would make her parents happy. She would fight for what’s right, she would make all the right choices, and she would help her kingdom thrive. Excitement coursed through her veins, strong enough that she could feel the very earth under her claws rumble and tremble. Were her knees shaking? Or was that- Screaming. Screaming was the first thing she heard when her ears stopped ringing from the explosion. The cracking of marble and stone and the shattering of glass was what she heard as all in the blink of an eye, her world crumbled down around her. Grey brick broke around her, rubble and glass raining down on her and her family. Large stones burst behind her and the stained glass depicting her late father defeating the beast cracked, then exploded behind her. She covered her head with her arms, feeling the slicing of coloured glass down her scales. Her eyes couldn’t help but land on the image around her. For years, since she was a child, she looked upon the mural of her father, wondering what it was like for him, how he felt when fighting a monster beyond any of them. A memory on display for all the kingdom to see, now nothing but dust and shards of what used to be, stained with dark crimson blood. It felt like she was underwater, held down by an invisible force, threatening to suck her into the void, never to return…. A hand grabbed her shoulder, shaking her furiously, snapping her out of her trance. It was her mother. Her mother, bruised and bloodied, standing in front of her, her eyes now stone cold with determination. “Chell.” Her voice rang through her ears, cutting out any background noise; it was angry, but not at her. To her, her mother’s voice was soft and sturdy, like a warm campfire in the harsh winter. “Chell, you must listen to me.” Her ears rang and her knees felt jello-like; standing alone took the majority of her energy. “The Beast. He has escaped. Chell, you must go. You need to leave, now!” Her head was reeling, like the world around her was spinning, crumbling, falling out of orbit as she stood. “You are the queen, and you must save your kingdom.” Chell’s mother took her hand, holding it firmly. “You are my daughter. You must save us all.” The two royalties looked each other in the eyes. All was still, and time around both froze. There was no going back. The young queen knew what she had to do. She was their protector, and with her birthright came saving her people. Chell had never liked armour; it was too clanky, too stiff. Even the set that had been made specifically for her felt constraining. Even though it gave her the protection she needed, there was no way she could catch up to the Beast with it on; she had to leave it behind. Instead, she opted to don her cloak instead; it left her open, unfortunately, but it was the best she could do at the moment. Maybe when she was closer to finding the Beast, she could get some armour. For now, however, she had to make do with as little as possible. The night air was brisk, and the cold bit at her wings. She had no time to say goodbye to her mother, who had gone to help those caught in the rubble. She had a task, and she must follow through. She never thought the day would come. Never had she imagined that she would have to take up her father’s job, bringing down The Beast like he had. What if she wasn’t as strong as him? All of a sudden, the realisation hit her like a brick. She was not her father. She had never trained for something of this calibre, never thought she would have to. She had her kingdom to save, but what if she couldn’t do it? Everyone knew her father; everyone knew her. If she were to fail…. And, with that thought, she collapsed, wailing and heaving sobs into the lonesome night. |
