She remembered stepping through the ruins of polished obsidian. She remembered the emptiness that filled her. The somber realisation of what she was looking at, this vast expanse of destruction and nothingness. And the fireflies - Starshine watched them flitter here and there, their glowing tails the only source of illumination within this forgotten kingdom. She had a strange feeling of longing in her chest, something mysterious and intangible, as though she was missing something despite not missing anything at all. Against the luminance of the fireflies, the slabs shone like black glass. There was no emotion in this place; just obsidian. This was a place of silent misery. But as she mourned something she didn’t even know, a brilliant light came upon the land. Starshine squinted, a confused sound in the back of her throat, and tried to make sense of it. |
She was staring back as soon as the light began to fade away, revealing a handsome Wildclaw male. He had veins of brilliant teal on his wings, his black scales spangled with ice-coloured fireflies. His azure eyes met hers, and they were honest and warm.
She looked at him and knew, at that very moment, that there was hope. That they could rebuild this place together; and that he was the one she had been waiting for.
