they are categorized by tiers!
also the ancient genes are broken atm oopsies lol. need to rewrite them all. will. do that eventually. it's also probably outdated tbh because i haven't looked at this in a while and my opinions on genes tend to change over time. and also some just aren't on here yet. it's hard to keep up with this lol.

other random notes I feel are important to mention:
- don't really like Opal on f pose or hatchling Tundras (the opal on the mouth just looks really strange. it's fine on male Tuns tho)
- I don't necessarily dislike stripes. it's just.... most of the time it's too boring for me. but I do technically like it!
- I prefer Plumage on f pose and hatchling Banescales
- I like Squiggle better on hatchlings
- Glimmer on Mirrors is VERY situational tier (it just... looks bad most of the time)
- I actually like Lionfish on Tundras (yeah, I know, how dare I. I have a lot of unpopular opinions. I just think it looks funny)
- I especially hate Scales on Tundras
- I've yet to come across an instance where I like Scales. it just... looks bad. I used to think it looked decent on obelisks and aberrations but my intense hatred of the gene, and my skills in Spite made me dislike it on them too.
- Filigree is meh tier on Mirrors
- I mostly only like Firefly in lighter, brighter colors. it just doesn't feel right in darker, duller colors
- Glimmer on Snappers, Bogsneaks and Obelisks is GOD tier (everytime I see a Snapper or Bogsneak with glimmer, my lifespan increases by a year. Obelisks only increase it by six months but still)
- Crackle on Veilspun is good tier!
- Edged on Veilspun is good tier!!
- technically I can be iffy on peacock, but really it's just I don't like the placement of some parts. but it's easily hidden by apparel so??
