The first warning that they had was the bright and venomous colours that lace Wisteria's form; the aggressive flashes of cyan and yellow that streak his body and blotch his wings. Very rarely was there a harmless reptile that donned vibrant hues, a lesson to be learned and Wisteria was one of those lessons. With his maw clasped around a shadowed egg, unhatched but awaiting the world, his purple eyes dart around the nested area then the brush that was hardly but 20 feet away. He could make that, totally. The issue therein laid was the large Ridgeback that coiled most to half of the smaller glade to protect the vulnerable dragons. The egg was adjusted in Wistera's maw as the mirror's clawed feet carried is ever so carefully out of the zone, smugness slowly settling onto his features. This was almost too easy but that is what the darkened Ridgeback got for sleeping on duty! The fool-- Wisteria had two feet into the forest before hot breath was on the back of his neck, and that sinking sensation of dread and regret was washing over him. Not even daring to look back, the egg was tightened in his maw and he broke into a sharp dash further into the thick brambles and dark woods. A bellowing snarl echoed behind him, the sound of trees crashing. There was some benefit to smaller size, the ease that Wisteria could move among the trees and how simple it was to dig into a rock crevice to hide away the Ridgeback giving chase. The issue with being small is that there is always something smaller which, truly, had never been an issue nor applicable as a problem until the exact moment where Wisteria laid this egg down upon the ground with building anticipation to eat it-- Except a Fae was staring at him, skittering around his egg and asking far too many questions. The temptation to eat this red hued dragon seemed to rise as Wisteria's hunger did but there was something about this one that stopped him... It could have been the caring nature in which she asked about the egg and if he was it's parent or how she offered him food as his stomach rumbled but mainly, it was the Eff-Off big Imperial that had been, oh so, quietly resting along the cliff side that Wisteria did not even note the darkened form moving until it's head was looming over them both. The choice to eat his meal in peace was forfeit as the Imperial, Alduin, scooped the egg very gently up and made promise to rest it among the other eggs with this wayward clan of very big and intimidating dragons. Wisteria came to know this estranged Fae to be Adel. There was strong promise of safety among this clan that Wisteria would revel in given the high tally or crime and death he had left in his wake but his heart did mourn the lost lunch that now rested under the protection of another very large and very intimidating Ridgeback. Months later, Wisteria finds himself staring down a young baby dragon with narrowed eyes. His claws very gently prod it as his voice lowers, "You should've been a snack." The child gurgles back with bright hues of its own, oblivious to the weird twist of fate that befell it to be born. |
