It took quite some time, but the alliance won the war. This posed an issue though- the kingdom of the royal family was located in the sea of a thousand currents, and with Rane being a fire dragon who had never seen more water than what could be held in a bath, the odds of him being able to live with his family were low. Neptis however, was set on keeping his little brother with him, and a large sum of treasure and gems was promised to whoever would be able to find a solution to the issue. Many came to the prince to try, and many failed to convince the prince they had found the solution.
Until she arrived.
The female guardian looked ancient- glassy, unseeing eyes somehow focused on the crown prince as she gave the coatl a tiny gemstone, and instructed the royal to have his brother swallow it. It would extinguish the flames in the wildclaw’s heart, and fill the void left behind with powers only those who are blessed by the Tidelord himself can reach.
Though skeptical, Neptis was getting desperate, and that very night, without their parents their knowledge, he fed Rane the gemstone, without the wildclaw even noticing something off about his little midnight snack.

It had never been an issue that he wouldn’t become the king- it was a given since he wasn’t the oldest child. Rane’s parents- the former king and queen- had fled their homeland due to a war, and stayed with their allies, located somewhere in the ashfall waste. The egg the queen had been carrying changed due to the change, and the lady had fallen ill as a result. The egg ended up fine, and the queen managed to recover. Despite this, many were concerned for the dragon which grew within the egg’s shell. Surely, such a drastic change from the sea of a thousand currents would leave a mark on the hatchling… right? It did, but not in the way many expected it to. Born with two extra pair of wings, Rane displayed the typical signs that he was a royal related to the king and queen. And to the crown prince. The war raged on, the king and queen working together with their allies to reclaim the land they had lost, and the young wildclaw was frequently left alone with the nursemaids and his older brother, prince Neptis. From a young age, it was clear something was off about the wildclaw, and it wasn’t just the extra wings. The young prince Rane seemed afraid of almost everyone, and would frequently hide between his brother’s many wings. Due to this, the two became quite close, Prince Neptis frequently being amused by his younger sibling’s antics, and the younger one growing to admire his older brother. |
