Deeply playful, fruitful in curiosity of the deep blue, the Seafloor Nereids are a small subspecies with a complex history of loyalties to various flights across the seas. Descendants of Arcane, many of the species' ancestors felt abandoned, lacking connection with the culture of Arcanians. Forming a legacy of their own, ancient water magecraft on their side, the species' ancestors bred the gift of gills into their young. Soon enough, a clan of aquatic Coatls ventured deep into the seas, venturing far beyond the waters of the Crystalpine reaches in suit of new shelter they could call home. Eventually, settling far within the depths of the sheltered Fishpine Reefs. 
During these years, loyalties were merged into a fuse of Acrane and Water flights alike. What is more, the species began branching into specialties of hunting, healing and very seldom, few grew into divine warriors of the sea. Finding their home and growing in numbers, few branched into the Gladeveins, even the Everbloom Gardens. An incredibly wise species, Seafloor Nereids currently occupy large numbers within each flight they have migrated towards. Consistently offering precise skills, unique knowledge and companionship to all. |
Seafloor Nereids have a handful of characteristics that can be generalized across the majority of the species, in stiff contrast to what is generally expected from a Coatl. Typically regarded as sour notes in their vocals, hums and cries, Seafloor Nereids have been recognized for their patterns of song and dance among specific regions- most notable the Gladeveins. Forming in great numbers, separate packs will ban together in harmony of song. Deep in the heart of summer, on the hottest days of the year, the species will race, dance and spin through the great waterfalls. Echos canting life into the skies, across the seas and through the open airs. Those not occupying the great falls, will form along shallow patches of the seas and sun, or focal points of the mountains along Arcane waters. Specializing in deep cross knowledge of the seas and the skies from their Arcanian descent, the species have unique skill sets which have served use to many clans throughout the seas. Teaching ancient mages, priests and healers the advantages to cross specialization among the flight entities. Not always a respected, or shared philosophy, the Coatls of the sea found themselves with enemies and allies alike. Unafraid to hold their own, historically the species have typically chose to rebuild nests and homes, choosing relocation over war and tragic loss. Growing in strength, allegiances, ancient wisdom as well as numbers, the species history is far from finished… |
