Biography

The blind and the enchantress.
The Wispwillow Grove didn’t feel as safe in the surrounding forests.
Voices? Aspen couldn’t tell when they started hearing those, could the woods be driving them mad? Could the legends be mistaken and maybe there was foul magic in these woods? No. Aspen was better than a few myths, or so they told themself, but the feeling of being watched grew much closer to be ignored and finally a different smell came to be, what exactly it belonged to, Aspen couldn’t place it, not until a voice was heard, much closer, much clearer this time. “I had yet to know one so strong to surpass my hypnosis, you have my respect” Aspen heard closer to their ear.
The two of them left the forest safely, chit chatting through the rest of their journey and making it back successfully, by the start of the Driftwood Drag, Aspen offered Lucia a place within their home, by hearing stories about how the Veilspun could never fit within a swarm before, the Mirror couldn’t help but empathize with Lucia, being a foundling of their own before the Riptide, Aspen had no doubts the Veilspun would find acceptance within the members of the Riptide, Lucia, growing fond of the Mirror, decided to accept their proposal.

Aspen left the Riptide by the morning, a storm forcing them to carry their journey from the ground instead of taking flight as they usually would, tales about these surroundings traveled far from Shadow’s realm into other flights, spreading through the regions of Sornieth, every hatchling, adult and elder has heard of the Veilspun, deemed to be nothing more than nest-time stories by those who didn’t dwell on Shadow’s territory, such as Aspen themself. By entrance, no odd feelings, no weird sensations, it was just a forest, trees, darkness, as expected, and something Aspen would describe as fog, the blind Mirror was still sensitive to light in low extends, dwelling on their sense of smell, which despite confused by the lack of familiarity, still guided them almost flawlessly through the place. Step by step, reaching deeper into the woods, at some point, inviting became no more, hostility replaced it, but how could it if nothing could be heard? No new smell other than the usual, murky, shadowy smell could be described, but the feeling of being watched remained, it lingered, creeping slowly as an ever growing shiver in Aspen’s scales slowly eating it’s way through their mind. |

“Who are you? Have you been watching me?” Aspen asked, not turning their head to face their companion, which, by the voice, they assumed to be much smaller than them. “Lucia, a Veilspun, remember my name, for I don’t voice it to just any dragon, I am, however, curious, how hast thou avoideth my hypnosis? Are you powerful? Perhaps a fool? I have been locking my eyes with your’s for as long as you arrived at my lone hive.” The Veilspun sounded more annoyed than curious by the tone of it’s voice, Aspen took the questions into mind, taking time to digest what the dragon could possibly mean and finally came with an answer. “I am blind, I doubt hypnosis could have an effect on me if it’s defined by eye contact.” Aspen observed, earning a genuine laugh in return from their guest, which now hanged from their left fan. “Color me delighted, I haven’t failed, you are immune!” It took Aspen maybe more than a few minutes to fully unpack their previous conversation and less than before until a fresh new smell invaded their senses, this one, Aspen could fully tell, the smell of blood invaded Aspen’s mind. |
“Are you hurt?” For some reason Aspen had the urge to ask, they didn’t know Lucia, maybe it was the stranger’s hunt, but Aspen’s senses placed it on the Veilspun and worry filled their head with a will to help their newfound acquaintance. “Oh, I’m not as used to these woods as the others, I moved recently and still don’t know much about the paths in the brambles, I was returning to my hive to treat myself as you appeared, I assumed I could hypnotize you and have you return me to my home safely.” Lucia announced, this time in a much more bashful tone, Aspen, by hearing the confession, rummaged through their packages and finally pulled out a vial filled with gooey, red liquid. “A heal potion, from the witches, it should help your wounds heal faster and prevent an infection!” Aspen placed the vial on the Veilspun’s hands, which despite being fairly small for them, seemed to be about enough for Lucia. “I haven’t received any help in a long time. Perhaps I should follow you to see if you are able to make it out of these woods.” |
