So far, the disease had cropped up in five different towns. Catalyst dragged her claw across the newsletter, her mind filled with too many thoughts of impending doom to realize she had created a jagged tear clear across the page. Five towns? So many, so soon. It was spreading quicker than she had predicted. The Skydancer grimaced as she easily recalled the names printed in the newsletter – they were all towns she had recently passed through. Leaving the paper on her desk, she hastily began packing her meager belongings. Had the disease followed her? Was she the cause? The Skydancer took to the air once more, intuitively searching for a thermal to take her West. Her hands shook but she paid them no mind. Guilt coursed through her veins and had she not been a dragon, the distraction would have grounded her. She shook her head resolutely in an attempt to clear her intrusive thoughts. No, she would not fail. She would complete her pilgrimage, find the Windsinger, and discover a cure. It was her responsibility. After all, she was the catalyst… | _____ |
