Hello, welcome to the cave of wishes - my name is Anuka! So sorry for the mess, I'm still getting things sorted out. I haven't been the Wishkeeper for very long, but I'm trying my best to be hasty in my organization process. Hopefully you can bear with me for the time being. My predecessor has... well, he's not able to continue this position. I don't advise mentioning his old occupation if you visit him, for he's not in a particularly good mood about what he's been through. Along with raw treasure and gems, - which are highly appreciated - food of any kind (especially meat and seafood), fest currency, any unhatched eggs, or artwork of any of the permanent dragons of the clan, here are some of the other bits and baubles the clan is looking for.
Anuka, a mellow and charming imperial dragon, has lived most of her life traveling from clan to clan, looking for a skill to master. She has always wanted to find her calling, but try as she might, each time she tried to enter a clan and join their working ranks, she felt this air of stagnancy. Trying to keep an optimistic mindset, she would gauge if a craft was right for her after a few weeks of practice and experience. Each time, though, she just couldn’t see herself doing these things in the long run.
Skipping between clans wasn’t easy for her - she made friends, basked in lovely and unusual environments, and most enjoyably, found a taste for exquisite cuisine. While she certainly enjoyed tasting a variety of exotic dishes, she found she was no good at cooking, either. Her love for food only expanded her desire to travel and seek out a craft to master, however.
Anuka’s travels often led to the trading post, where she enjoyed scanning the stalls for new and unique artisans to inquire about their professions. On a particularly momentous day, she found a candymaker. Her sweet tooth kicked in and piqued her curiosity, so she approached the much larger imperial with a warm greeting. The candymaker, ironically named Candi, was eager to share, and Anuka ended up returning to her clan, Quilrarth. She found a comfortable room at Nithe’s Inn and settled down for the night.
To her dismay - but not to her surprise - she found that this wasn’t the one after all. A week had passed, though Anuka was intending to persevere for another week before admitting defeat and moving on. It was one fateful night when she was returning to her room at the Inn when there was a commotion in the clan. The guards were wrestling with an extremely upset and disoriented fae dragon. At first, it seemed like simply an intruder, or perhaps a dragon who had consumed a bit too many fermented Mycena mushrooms. It was the conversations amongst the crowds that really made her realize the significance of the situation - this was a highly respected and adored member of the high court, gone mad for one reason or another. While the other denizens were theorizing, Anuka decided to investigate.
She started by asking around about what role this dragon - Virruk - played in the high court. He was the wishkeeper, managing scrolls upon scrolls of wishes that the clan had. He occasionally coordinated with the connections manager and treasurer to find rare and expensive items for the members of the clan. Anuka was curious and fascinated - she had never heard of this before.
After investigating and prying for information, she discovered that Virruk had taken an item for himself, which had caused him to go mad. At surface level, this may seem impossible, but as it turns out, Virruk had made a vow to the gods that he would not take any material possessions for himself unless gifted to him directly. When he went out of his way to get a gene that would change the appearance of his eyes, he was struck with a curse. His eyes disappeared, replaced with the magic of the Arcanist swirling in the sockets. He was rendered blind, as punishment for breaking his vow.
With the clan in dire need of a new wishkeeper, and the scrolls being eaten away by moths, Anuka decided to jump into action. She asked other members of the high court directly, who accepted her request, so long as she accepted help from other dragons with similar jobs. Learning the basics of documentation from Cherrin and how to catalog wishes from Nuri and Olwen, she quickly discovered that this was it. This was the craft she was searching for.
Ensuring she didn’t make any deals with the gods, Anuka happily rose to the position, and within a week, was officially given the title of “Wishkeeper” by King Ophelia himself.
