Uh-oh, looks like this creepy crawler wandered a little too far from their home lair (452562, Hyzenthlaay), and now they’re off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, we'd really appreciate it if you could just return them to their original home via the Crossroads, the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread here, or this rest hub, if you don’t want another traveler in return from the thread. You can also adopt them permanently if you don’t want them leaving your lair - just contact hyzenthlaay and let her know (it’s good for her notes)! Many people have worked very hard on this traveling dragon, and exalting them would be an absolute shame. Please don’t do it. Pinned Shut has spent the last few seasons studying under one of Mavenlark's greatest taxidermist, Hirudinea, on a very specific form of art - bug taxidermy. If anyone is to adopt an interest in the art form, it might as well be fae, whose small stature and even smaller claws can make quick intricate works of the small beasts. Pin's interest started as a hobby, when collecting beetles' wings to make jewelry from as a way to pass time, and has evolved into her main source of income under Hirudinea's careful eye. Unlike her mentor, Pin is outgoing and charismatic, eager to share her work with the world and critical of those who dismiss it just on the basis of it being made from dead bugs. She has recently taken to Sornieth's trade circuit to sell her jewelry - the main focus of her work in taxidermy - and to source insects that she wouldn't otherwise see regularly in the Crystalspine Reaches. I can't believe my luck in finding a mentor in such an incredibly specific area - I guess that's the beauty of living in an artisan community! Still, though, I know the world holds much more inspiration for my work than one location can possibly give me. I hope I learn something cool - and, y'know, manage to sell enough jewelry to eat... 3/31/2021, Fantivity: I’ve been to quite a few places already in clan burning fantasies I made some new friends it feels good to be out in the world again after staying at that inn for so long I wonder where I’ll go next. 6/12/2021, Strukla: The wind blowing here in the plain is so strong it's threatening to blow me away. How do they even get any bugs around here? Luckily, I managed to befriend one of their own, to teach me how to use my wings better in this weather and how to glide more easily. We got along just fine and I was about ready to call her my first real friend since I've started this journey, but then I mentioned my hobby and it all went through the window. She just stood there, silent, and stared at me. She was judging me. I could feel it. I confronted her right away about thinking how "I'm a weirdo." and "Probably not right in the head, even." She just kept on being silent and staring at me with big, doe eyes. It really got on my nerves. Too bad, even, for I really, really wanted to call her a friend. We didn't chat after that and I get the feeling she avoided me for the most part. But, being the better dragon as always, I did part with her on a somewhat pleasant note. I dragged her over to the shade before leaving and gifted her a necklace made out of a Blackshield Cockroach's wings. It had a nice, lilac shine to it, which I'm sure would compliment her scales. She still looked at me like I grew a second head days before, but she did give me a wave at the end. And for that, and that reason only, dear diary, will I mention her name here in passing. Her name was Libra. |
6/14/2021, LabyrinthianLost: I finally made it off that plain. Ever since, it feels like my wings are always trembling. I wonder if I should see a doctor about that...? Anyway, I decided to check out this hot new travel destination; Cragenmire City. My wares haven't been selling great, though. I guess most people aren't interested in dead bugs, huh? Well, that's fine! I can wait it out, and besides, with the inn I'm staying at, I don't have to worry about getting some food. Well, breakfast, that is. Someone usually tends to spot me and take pity by the end of the day, though, and at the end of every other day, I have enough to scrounge up a meal for myself.
I suppose actually going out and hunting wouldn't hurt, but I don't want to leave my stand. Last time I took a break, there was this weird imperial rummaging through all my stuff. Seems like he's a bit of a nuisance around here, since a couple of the residents apologized for his actions. I was scared that he might've cleared out my stock, but when I counted I realized nothing was missing. I guess my wares aren't even worth stealing, now. Maybe I should get a different career path. Being a taxidermist is great, but it just doesn't pay well. I need to spruce it up somehow.
6/24/2021, Arauko: I decided to show off my wares at a different location by Wispwillow Grove, and try my luck there. I found a nice, small town and decided to spend some time hunting, trading, and getting to know the locals better. There was a particular feisty Galoer who was curious about my wares, but balked and left once he started browsing my extensive bug collection. I guess he isn't that fond of insects? Which is a shame, his coloring is perfect for several of my latest creations.
Well, I guess I should move on to find more types of interesting bugs around the world.
7/1/2021, grxndsxn: Crow Callers proved to be an interesting spot to find bugs. Of course, I was mainly finding maggots and the like, since this clan is mainly on Plague's territory. I also found a few bugs from the food hoard... apparently this clan has had an abundance of bugs, so they just let me take them.
I ended up falling in love with Eon, normally a magician's assistant. A bit of an unusual match, but he wanted to help with my taxidermy (I suppose taxidermy is a type of magic, in a sense...), and that's all that matters to me.
7/31/2021, Lirillith: This Light Clan calls themselves "Helianthus Haven," but they're basically just a suburb of Lanternlea Port. I came here by chance - a bunch of travelers from Caesura landed here and one of them found this clan's inn, though I honestly didn't notice who it was (maybe the Snapper?) I mean, I came to Lanternlea on purpose, but this particular inn was a random choice.
I had high hopes for a port town, and I have gotten a few interested browsers! I decided to *sigh* sell out and put all the colorful butterfly-wing and dragonfly stuff front and center, plus a few scorpions (not even INSECTS, but I always get queries - "Do you have any scorpions? What about spiders?" as if I don't have a sign on my stall saying "Insects"), and it seems to be working. I sold a couple of bracelets, a butterfly collection, a collection of grasshoppers (to a Fae; I knew my people would come through for me) and a scorpion necklace to an edgy-looking adolescent Ridgeback. I tried to explain that the scorpion's venom isn't even fatal, but I don't think he was listening.
The clan may have been a random choice, but I'm reasonably happy with them. One of their bug farmers helped me set up my stall, and even though she had very basic tastes (butterflies, of course) she was surprisingly knowledgeable about beetles, commiserated with me about arachnids being treated as bugs, and later on brought her boyfriend around to buy her a necklace.
