All hatchlings were strong and healthy, yet two of them stood out: a red and gray banescale, who seemed to take a special interest in the tundra rather than the other hatchings, and another banescale, with eyes very much like the ones of the ‘statues’ of the abandoned temple.
The tundra was quick to make the connection, and after making sure that the young dragons were all safely tucked in and asleep, he went to the temple again, thanking whatever entity was responsible.
The very next day though, most hatchlings had somehow vanished. There were only two left: the red and gray banescale, and the unusual-eyed one. No one knew what had happened to the others, but somehow Adagio understood.
The tundra also understood why the strange-eyed banescale left one day, and why the clan no longer found eggs.
Whatever entity was responsible, had taken the strange hatchling as their own, but had also given Adagio exactly what he had asked for.

Totemclan has had a long history with various superstitions, but even they couldn’t know that the RiNG was real- and was very willing to show it to them. The temple of endless fortune was recently discovered by Iophiel, who had just assumed it was related to a cult, and that the two motionless dragons were actually statues- they sat too still and were covered in too much dust to be actual dragons, he reasoned. Still, despite the coatl’s skeptic nature when it came to the supernatural, he did share his findings, which prompted Adagio- the clan’s sole healer at the time- to visit, offering a small pouch of gems in hopes that whatever entity was responsible for the temple (and the ‘cult’ that had worshipped it) would help him find an apprentice. The tundra hadn’t expected anything, really. But then the eggs started appearing. It was strange, really: More and more often abandoned eggs would be found by the gatherers and hunters of the clan, and all seemed to contain healthy yet unhatched dragons. It became a source of concern to many: was there a war going on nearby? Were thieves and rogues depositing stolen eggs around the territory, with intend on picking up their loot later? Was there a plague and were the eggs actually contaminated? No one knew, but like the peculiar appearance of the eggs, the dragons that hatched were equally…. Interesting… The hatching started on the first of a new year, as the clan was having a feast. If not for Grim wandering the halls of the clan, no one would even notice the eggs all were beginning to hatch on the same day. ...And Adagio wouldn’t have had one of the most stressful nights of his life. |
