"For this next magic act I am going to need a volunteer."

Gilliard looked out at his audience where not a single hand rose into the air to offer their services. He tutted, giving his head a slight shake. "Come now, don't be shy. I promise this will be the highlight of your evening." When there were still no takers he pointed to a lady in the front row. "You there. Please, come on over."

She seemed reluctant, but the woman did vacate her seat to stand next to Gilliard. He indicated a rectangular table set up in front of him. "If you would, please lie down. Tonight we are going to make you levitate."

The woman did as he asked and situated herself on the table with arms folded over her chest. Gilliard began moving his hands above her body, murmuring softly in some unknown language. Slowly her body began to lift until it appeared to be hovering a few inches in the air. The crowd began to applaud as he passed a hand beneath her and then managed to have her body turn in the air until she was facing the other way.

"Now your flight must come to an end." He wriggled his fingers and pressed down gently on her frame to lower her back to the table. Yet as soon as his hands left she sprang right back up into the air. A vexed hiss sounded from Gilliard and he more firmly pushed her to the table. Again, she went right back up.

"Ah, please stand." He offered her a hand to help her down from the table, but she seemed unable to touch the ground. Her frame floated just above. Gilliard gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Um, that should go away in a few days. Thank you for your cooperation!" He clapped to indicate the rest of the crowd should applaud as well and led the woman back to her seat.

"Well then!" Gilliard began as he pushed over a wooden box and a saw into the spotlight. "I will need another volunteer."

The tent emptied out in less than a minute.
