In every generation, there must be one who will lead.

Striil'ika has been marked for rule, by their colors and by the will of the Spirit Council. It is a heavy burden to bear, being the Prince-in-Waiting; and yet someone must do it, and the burden is thought to be less for having borne it so long. The Spirit Council chooses the heir, and the mortals they watch over accept the wisdom of their choice. So it has been, and so it shall ever be.

The young heir is generally considered to be a bright, pleasant child, well suited for the role that has been chosen for them. Their tutors speak approvingly of their insightful questions and their playmates follow their lead uncomplainingly, as is expected of them. None think to ask them directly what they think of their duties, for what cause would the young heir have to feel discontent? The spirits chose them out of all the others in the world, after all.
