A mourner in ravenlike black, perched on her throne of stone, caressed two stags guarding her sides under the waning sun. Tattered ribbons of sunlight slipped through the autumnal birch branches, painting the ancient cemetery in melancholic tones.

They kneeled before her, always, beggars and rulers alike, but never in her unceasing epoch, never someone like him. Grasping the fiery-red locks peeled from a comb and a corsage of dried chrysanthemums, he looked at her with eyes trembling with childlike innocence, a gaze that did not suit his aging frame.
