The bright young Head of Álfheimr Hall, Salem was born deep in Dragonhome. Salem is the only Earth magic master on Home's faculty board, and though Earth dragons aren't exactly a majority at Home, he still considers this a great responsibility, as he is the only dragon available to teach courses on Earth elemental magic to young Earth magicians. Though he is an incredibly gifted magician, and his skills with weaponry and physical combat are far from shabby, Salem is an artist at heart. He is a very talented and skilled painter, and even his Earth magic often looks like dancing. His graceful magical style often means his elemental magic lessons have many spectators. A serious and somewhat reserved dragon, Salem rarely has the patience for antics or funny business in his classes, either from students or colleagues. He takes his work as Head of Hall very seriously, and he knows that artists like the residents in his Hall are often overlooked in favour of science-minded dragons. Salem is firm in his desire that Álfheimr Hall be seen as more than just 'the artist's Hall,' pushing his residents to develop their academic and magical skills along with their artistic ones.

Serious and somewhat self-conscious by nature, Salem tends to be slow to open up about himself. He is a firm but fair teacher, treating every resident with consistently high expectations. Salem has a well-developed sense of morality and fairness, and is a frequent faculty member residents go to for settling disputes. He is also known at faculty meetings for his refusal to play devil's advocate and his constant willingness to advocate for the underdogs, and he will always argue against injustice (real or perceived). As an Earth magician, Salem tends to like to keep his feet on the ground, and he absolutely hates teaching the aviation general education requirement. He doesn't care for stereotypes surrounding Fae, and tends to puff himself up a bit to overcompensate. Like many Fae, though, he struggles a bit with reading facial expressions. Because of this, he tends to over-exaggerate his own facial expressions, and his students and other dragons who know him well often exaggerate their expressions and the tones of their voices around him without realizing. Though he is known for his compassionate nature, his serious outlook means that his classes are not places for antics or misbehaviour. Salem is a very kind dragon and is always willing to offer advice to his students, but he also tends to be a bit impatient and on the temperamental side. He is patient with his students, especially younger students, but snaps easily at dragons who he believes should know better. He also tends to take insults or criticism a bit personally, taking even minor mistakes as signs of personal failure. Because of this, Salem is a notorious perfectionist, and has been known to trash artwork that any other dragon would be proud of. Though he tends to be too much of a perfectionist and take things a bit too seriously, Salem is also very loyal and optimistic. He is absolutely devoted to Home and to his students, and he pushes not only himself but every other dragon at Home to succeed.
