One of the brightest dragons at Home, Sefirah is Home's head scientist. Well-travelled and well-studied, he is an expert in anomalistics, which is the scientific study of anomalous phenomena - basically, he studies everything weird. He prefers to let his colleagues on the faculty board teach general level science courses, accepting only the most talented students into his own classes. Sefirah's exclusive and difficult classes coupled with his magnanimous and larger-than-life reputation have made him the stuff of legend around Home.
- Biography
Born on the outskirts of the Viridian Labyrinth, Sefirah shares a similar beginning as many of the young Multi-Gaze dragons at Home, as he was initially distrusted and eventually outcast from his birth Clan thanks to his eye type. Never much of a magician, he nevertheless quickly distinguished himself as a remarkable scholar and scientist, with a wonderful eye for detail and patterns and an indefatigable need to solve problems and answer questions. His extra eyes made him interested in the study of anomalies, and his natural curiosity has never waned. Anomalistics isn't exactly a highly-respected scientific field, and he desperately wants to help change the reputation of his field. Initially reluctant to accept a position at Home, he agreed due to the fact that Light territory is a paradise for paranormalists, cryptozoologists, and parapsychologists - the fields falling under the anomalistics umbrella he loves most. Though he was concerned about his ability to fit in and get along well with hatchlings and young dragons, he's well-respected and much-loved by his students and his colleagues alike.
- Life at Home
As Home's head scientist, Sefirah is responsible for designing the science curriculum for all of Home's residents. He works very closely with the other science professors, especially those in Svartálfheimr Hall, which is the Hall for scientifically-minded young dragons. Though he can often be tempted to guest lecture for pretty much any science course, Sefirah prefers to keep his own classes small, accepting only the best students. He likes to keep his schedule less packed than most of his colleagues, leaving plenty of time for him to meet one-on-one with his students to discuss research projects, have individual lessons, or just have a chat, as well as giving him more time to focus on his own experiments and projects. He often tells his students that anomalistics is simply the scientific study of that which is not currently understood, and it is their job as scientists to add to current understanding. Despite the fact that his field of study is unconventional, he does not compromise on the need for research to remain within conventional boundaries and deal with empirical claims of the extraordinary rather than those which cannot ever be proven. His students will often repeat his oft-said maxim that everything remains plausible until it has been conclusively proven not only implausible but actually impossible.
- Relationships
Somewhat of a difficult dragon to get to know, Sefirah can often seem closed-off or self-centered. He spends a lot of time inside his own head, and other dragons frequently need to be patient with him if they want to get to know him. Regardless, he is one of the most hands-on professors at Home, and he tends to endear himself to his students very quickly, as he always respects their intelligence (to get accepted into his classes, he knows they must be intelligent) and is always more than willing to take them with him on experiments or research expeditions. Most of his students are from Svartálfheimr Hall and Helheim Hall, though he will take any student who is interested in weird stuff and has the brains to keep up with him. He's known by Helheim students as a good professor to go to for help breaking rules the right way, as his love of puzzles and the unknown means he's always going to be happy to help them if they need to break a few rules for a just cause. Sefirah is close with many of the other professors, especially those in Svartálfheimr and Helheim Halls, who uniformly respect his intelligence and informal, respectful teaching style. Many students who have never had him in class find him to be larger-than-life and somewhat intimidating, though his current students and friends on the faculty board know he has a dry and witty sense of humour and a healthy goofy side. Though he prefers to focus single-mindedly on his classes and his own research, his colleagues have recently convinced him to be the advisor for the tabletop gaming club, which has helped him step out of his shell a bit.
- Personality
An intellectual and introverted dragon, Sefirah is often serious and single-minded, rarely wavering from a task until it is finished. He loves puzzles and mind games, often needing to fidget with a small puzzle game when he needs to sit still, and growing increasingly frustrated if he doesn't have a way to occupy his mind. He can be very excitable and enthusiastic when he thinks he's close to figuring something out or solving a problem, although his years of experience as an anomalist has left him a bit jaded, unable to find as much pure wonder and excitement when faced with the unknown and implausible as he once did. His students have helped him get past this a bit, as seeing how they react to coming face-to-face with things such as Shade infestations and ghost sightings in the Hewn City, things he has long since grown numb to, reminds him of how amazing his job is. Solitary by nature, Sefirah easily gets caught up in his own head. He is a proud dragon, well aware of just how smart and capable he is, and this has lead him to relish the idea of himself as a solitary hero. He hates asking for and accepting help, even when he needs it. His friends know him well enough to help him when he needs it without asking or waiting for permission, but his proud nature still means he has difficulty acknowledging it when he struggles with something. Regardless of his eccentricities, Sefirah remains a kind and knowledgeable professor, beloved by students and colleagues alike. Even if he is a bit full of himself.
