Cain
↠ Father of Murder

"I have to say, you almost made me feel sorry for what I've done. But I'm just so... hungry. I don't think I could care right now even if I really tried. I would say that I'm sorry brother, but I just don't feel anything anymore except my hunger..."

In the beginning, Plaguebringer herself created the Wildclaws as a peace offering to the Gladekeeper. She created two prototypes to test everything first, Cain and his brother Abel. Abel was a survivalist in every sense of the word. Abel never killed more than he could eat, never stuck his neck out for unnecessary reasons, stayed close to hearth and home. Cain had the knack of hunting and the look of violence in his eyes. He bathed in pools of blood just to feel it drip down and dry on his scales. Even though both took to such different paths within their lives, both thought themselves to be Plaguebringers favorite. Abel would bring her stories of how he almost succumbed to the touch of death but pulled through every time while Cain would bring her the various bones and items of all of his kills. Eventually, however, Cain grew to find that Plaguebringer had started to care more for Abel than he. At first, he took the fact with a grain of salt and turned a blind eye. Time passed and he found that he could no longer ignore that he had fallen from Plaguebringer's favor. He found that he was boiling with jealousy and envy, and he found that he had a way to exact his revenge on Abel and return himself to Plaguebringer's side.

Cain believed that because Plaguebringer wanted her viruses to spread and her other children to survive them, those who could not survive did not deserve a chance. Once he caught wind of a sickness that had touched down upon a new clan, he would head there as fast as he could. Cain would spend days observing the clan. Sitting in the center of the clan's paths, watching the clan members peruse the trading posts, observing them as they socialized amongst others. A few signs of sickness from here to there of course, but he would never pay attention until the sickness caused a dragon to fall. Coughing and a droop of the wings never concerned him. Scales falling and being unable to stand is when Cain would step onto the scene. He saw these symptoms as being unable to handle the so-called blessings his mother had given them. Being too weak to carry the virus was a sign that the carrier should not be given the chance to breathe, a sign that he believed only he could see. Cain would stalk these dragons till they were alone and then pounce upon them like a murderous and starving wolf in the night. Nothing was left except the bare bones, which he brought up unto Plaguebringer as a trophy.

When he brought the first dragon bones to Plaguebringer and laid them at her feet, she looked at him with only disgust.
"What have you brought me, Cain?"
"I have brought you the bones of the weak. The remains of the unworthy. The scraps of those that could not withstand your blessings."
"Cain..."
"Are you not proud of me mother? I have done what Abel could not. I have taken those who cannot withstand your blessings! Your subjects will grow stronger and stronger! Noth-"
"Silence!! Cain!! What have you done!?"
"I've... Mother, I've done what you wanted?"
"Cain I never wanted unnecessary death..."
Cain was confused as his world view seemed to be flipped upside down. He backed away from his mother's gaze. He clawed at his chest and arms as he looked up to find her staring with disgust.
"Cain I can't accept that behavior, that is inexcusable. I do not encourage needless death! I do not encourage you taking away their chance to survive! You were wrong!"
"But mother I-"
"No! This will not stain my claws a second more, leave! Leave my sight! Never return!"

Cain was tossed away from Plaguebringer's side as if he were nothing more than a rotting lump of burnt flesh. He was scorned and shunned, his name no longer carried the respect he once had. He was no longer one of the Princes of Plague, he was no longer the Champion of the Plaguebringer, he was now Cain the Forsaken. He wandered from clan to clan to try and find a sense of normalcy. Cain was turned down by every clan and every dragon in the Scarred Wasteland. Eventually, he could take no longer and plotted revenge against his very own mother. He knew of a clan she favorited above all. Abel and his offspring and his offspring's offspring. All survivors in the Plaguebringer's eyes, all dead in his own. As soon as Cain finished his train of thought and solidified it, he was on his way. He was determined and nothing was going to stop him.

When Cain finally made it to Abel's clan, he was met with loving arms. The air was full of dragons shouting out Uncle Cain, ringing with offers of sharing dinner and a story. He could care less however, he was there for one thing and one thing only. As the sun went down and the moon started to rise, he gathered everyone into his brother's supposed throne room. The large room Abel was to be in every time Plaguebringer visited. He smiled and talked and played along as if everything was normal however, once everyone was inside the throne room, he locked the large doors behind him and spread his wings.
"I do apologize for the inconvenience and the abruptness of my arrival and decisions, but... then again, I'm not entirely apologetic."
Before anyone could speak or ask what was going on, Cain was set upon each and every dragon. Within the hour he was sitting alone in the center of the throne room, covered in the blood of his relatives and waiting for Abel himself. Once he saw his brother walk through the doors and stare in horror, a smile overtook his face.
"Brother... how lovely of you to join me. I would say us but... everyone else has been... predisposed."
"Cain... what..."
"Oh, you don't need to worry. They all died quickly. I only ate them on-"
"You've eaten their flesh?!"
"Yes. And I have to say... they weren't the most filling."
"Brother, you can't be serious. You've... my legacy. You've eaten my leg-"
"I don't care about your legacy!"
"... brother, you don't me-"
" I do! Every word! I care no longer for Mother or you! You've both shunned me! If you no longer care for me, I will no longer care for you!"
"Cain, you don't need to do this. To do any of this. You can be forgiv-"
Before Abel could finish his sentence, Cain had already launched himself at his brother's throat. Not a single sound could slip from his brother before Cain tore into him like a pack of mirrors on a fresh kill. Nothing was left except the bones.

Days afterward, Plaguebringer decided to check in on her favorite prospering clans. She was met with nothing but the stinking scent of rotten flesh and the buzzing of thousands of flies. She explored every crevice and cave of the clan, calling out names and titles. Once she had confirmed what she already knew, she headed straight towards the throne room. Cain laid in the center of it all, his claws and teeth stained with Abel's blood and his relatives' blood. Cain blinked once before raising his head.
"Mother... how... lovely."
"... Cain you have become an abomination. You are no son of mine..."
"You cannot deny me for-"
"You are no son of mine! Cannibalistic, murderous, needlessly violent! I warned you once! I told you to leave! And you did nothing but get worse!"
Plaguebringer grabbed Cain by his wings and neck, dragging him out of the throne room and taking off into the sky, her ragged and torn wings doing their best to keep them both airborne.
"I created you with my own claws! Built a sculpture of you from my own horns, one for your brother out of my sister's own branches! You were supposed to be a gift! Yet you become an abomination!"
She flew over the Scarred Wasteland and violently threw Cain into a large chasm formed between her territory and another diety's, binding his wings together as he fell.
"Be banished from my lands and any other!"

When the Plaguebringer returned to her hearth and home, she visited the wyrmwound. She thrust her arm down into the depths and retrieved a perfect carving of a wildclaw curled around a bone. She turned it and it was a perfect carving of Cain. She sneered and started to chip at every perfect detail.
"May you be cursed to move from place to place. May you be cursed to never know the embrace of another. May you be cursed to never die or rot peacefully. May you never be satisfied. May you hunger for what was forbidden to all. May you stave and famish for eons and suffer for what you have done"
Plaguebringer continued to lay curse after curse upon Cain as he lay unconscious in a ravine between worlds. Once she had destroyed the effigy of him completely, she let the pieces dissolve in her vat of viruses. As the last one disintegrated, Cain awoke, laying at the very bottom of a chasm. He lifted his head up and felt his skull realign itself and his skin heal where once a river of blood ran. Before he could register what had happened and what was happening, a sharp pain pierced his stomach. He cried out and looked around. He knew what he was starving for. He knew what he needed. Dragon flesh.
