He wishes he could remember.

He swims forever in the ocean of his memories, tumultuous, unsure of what he is or used to be. Green smoke tears at what little remained of his soft head, lit only by the din of his own pupilless eyes, marred with lightning, origins unknown – was it lightning of his own accord or lightning, a birthplace? He wishes he could still remember, as he searches fruitlessly.

The ice has adhered almost too well to his body, to the point that he cannot tell where his youthful scales begin and end, only frozen over with thousands and thousands of years of ice. There were some things he could remember concerning his strangely matted scales and the unsightly gaps in between certain spots. He shoddily ambled about, blurs of war and death in his faint recollections, unsure of what to do or think anymore.

The elements he’d been exposed to had permanently warped and distorted the otherwise immaculate image of who he used to be. Perhaps he never would. He’d assigned himself a new name, Krieg, so that when the faint cry of a voice asked for his person, he could respond, unhesitant, about the only thing that could ever hope to remain in his image. He was no longer a Banescale. He was something that had once resembled a Banescale.

Perhaps it would be best if he never remembered.

Krieg was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was a Bane who attempted to escape the ancient war. He was eventually caught and frozen in a cryogenic prison, only able to use his own magic to even survive. When new lava flows awakened the Banes once more, the chaotic amalgam of elemental magics flowing into the eggs and into him scrambled his element entirely. He is now a Lightning dragon who recalls nothing of who he used to be except for a few clashes.

His body is almost completely destroyed by the remnants of the icy prison he lived in, mottled and fused scales are but the melted remnants of his young body. Krieg created his own name and doesn’t even remember what his old one was. It is said he may never return to who he used to be, but perhaps that is the least of Krieg’s worries – after all, the world has changed a lot since he last set foot in it.
