xx EUDORA

eudora-by-swegnweg.png
In Greek mythology, Eudora or Eudore (Ancient Greek: Εὐδώρη "early" or "leading") was a name given to three nymphs. Eudora was the name of:
one of the fifty Nereids, the daughters of the sea-gods Nereus and his wife Doris;
one of the names of the 3000 Oceanids, the daughters of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys
one of the Hyades, the nymphs associated with the configuration of stars known as the Hyades.

Eudora is also the name of my first Animal Crossing Town :P
My town is now called Porto, the more you know. Also the reason why my clan is called Porto, after my animal crossing town lol

by yours truly, crappy non-native English included.

xxxxxxxThey flapped wings and flied, flied. They went on and one as they migrated from the volcano they had been born at. So many songs and an immense joy. The world around them was now so different, the air was cold and pleasant, unlike the hot and humid winds of the volcano. Of course, they didn't know where they were. Flying above sea level, below was the dark depths whose bottom could only be reached by the strongest acolytes of the sea. They didn’t know that. They had hatched not too long ago and they were too busy singing their way into the unknown to understand the elements surrounding them, or to know anything of this new wide world so big and strange.

xxxxxxxThey kept flying in their cheerful rhythm.

xxxxxxxBut she stopped singing, and spread her small feathered wings over the deep dark blue beneath her. The flock went on their journey and she stayed behind on her own volition. How inviting. How inciting it was, to gaze at its hues, the shift of the waves and the bright sparkles of the sun reflected in shimmering light.

xxxxxxxIt was blinding and beautiful, she wanted so much more of it.

xxxxxxxShe closed her eyes, stopped moving with and against the wind and in a moment, she had willingly fallen into the cold waters of the Sea of a Thousand Currents making but a tiny splash. The hatchling disappeared beneath the dance of the waves.

xxxxxxxIn the silence of the blue, until it turned black and she was engulfed by the nothing, the hatchling heard voices. Oh, so many of them. They hummed words of prophecies she knew nothing about. Places she didn't know, faces she never met, cities she never visited. How pleasant to hear all those stories, what lovely lullabies. She sunk and kept sinking until she laid on the very soft sands of the bottom of the Spiral Keep.

xxxxxxxShe took a deep breath of that element, her element.

xxxxxxxShe loved it so much. How could she love so much of something she had barely met?

xxxxxxxShe let it fill her lungs, her body, her very mind; until even she was nothing but an extension of the water around her.

***

xxxxxxxShe washed ashore, who knows how long afterwards and it felt so wrong. The sand was warm now, bright. Too bright. She kept her eyes closed, feeling water overflowing from them; tears too, but something else entirely. The shore smelled like sea and kelp, and the saltwater carried by the wind on hot summer days. Under the warm gentle sun, she hated all of it. Curled up, wings and tails, spines extended, she hated how her feathers were drying and how water was slowly leaving her.

xxxxxxxFootsteps on the sand meant something was coming. She heard the very soft gasp and the gentle panting of whatever - whoever? - was approaching, and its shadow hovered over her until the creature gathered enough courage to lower closer itself to her.

xxxxxxx- You... I have seen you before.

xxxxxxxThat voice was so so lovely. In her mind, the sound of silence from the prophecies sounded just like that voice. So motherly, full of care, doubt, love, devotion. The voice of the Ocean itself. To hear it out of the water, however, felt so alien and so revolting. She opened her eyes and tried focusing on whoever that was, but the water overflowing prevented her from seeing anything beyond a blue blur.

xxxxxxx- Why is your voice so nice? Why are you here? - She timidly said and the creature scooped her up on its arms, shushing her into a gentle hum, rocking her to sleep. When had she felt so tired?

xxxxxxx- Don't worry. The sea brought you to me for a reason.

xxxxxxxFrom her very core, a dread gave her shivers. She cried, all of a sudden, she started crying. Behind her, the waves crashed in a sound of dread and betrayal. She longed for them. She longed to be part of the sea again but to imagine herself close to it gave her such a dread. She feared it and she hated fearing it.

xxxxxxxThe sea had brought her to shore for a reason, and she did not want to waste time finding out why; she just wanted to go back to it.

xxxxxxxShe just wanted to be water again.

A shore-dwelling child
The sea that once welcome her to be part of it all of a sudden rejected her. Neglecting her to the surface and its shore.

To think she had once been the very wrath of the elements and was once again confined in a physical body disgusted her. She hated it. Hated the scales, hated the feathers, hated the spines, hated the apparels, hated the dragons. She hated all of it.

Everybody treated her arrival as a good omen.

The sea blessed Porto with a hatchling filled with its very element!

No. No. No. No.

She did not wanted to be filled with her element, she longed to be one with it once again.

But alas, she was trapped on this body once more, and had absolutely no idea how to go back. She feared the sea so much. Stepping into it filled her with the dread of disobeying its choice. Dying would mean never being part of it again. She will often sit on the seashore, and let waves break around her, for going to water means to start crying. What a cruel mistress it was, to curse her into being a dragon once more. What was it trying to teach her?

Eudora Sobrado. 8 human years old. Not eternally youthful, she's just a kid character aka she ages.

big art! :D

Just let me go divinate again, you coward. No, I don't want to take a nap! I don't need any of this! >8(

An acolyte of the sea
In Porto, there is a cavern known as 'Weeping Crystal'. Water enters it during the night, and the tide recedes during the day, keeping it filled with saltwater but unable to access the sea. There, the acolytes say, Tidelord's prophecies are easier to hear and interpret. To sink into the depths of the Weeping Pool is to hear what Tidelord has to say. Whenever she does it, she feels the pressure and the fear of the sea disappear just a little.

And so, she believes that is what she must to to earn back her right to become water again. Divinate. See into the future for the safety of those who dare venture into the sea. Divination takes a massive toll on her physical body, but she presses to do it daily.

Her requests are usually met with a firm 'No' by the Mirror who found her.

Luar named her Eudora, which she thought was a stupid name. Luar took her in to live in a house, which she thought was too far from the sea. Luar stopped her from doing divination daily.

'If you do it, you risk dying, if you die, you can't be water.'

Stupid Luar. Stupid City. Stupid prophecies.

Eudora She is happier when divinating as it lets her feel close to being water once more; but Luar won't let her do it all most of the time. She spends as much as she can under the Weeping Pool, interpreting prophecies. On every other day, she sits on a rock at the very centre of Caramaelstron Bay and lets the waves crash on her until one of Luar's apprentices comes to collect her and put her to bed like she was a little hatchling.

Well, she is a hatchling and well, maybe she does get sleepy at around 9pm every day... Yeah some dolls are kind of cute, and she often watches some other kids playing on the beach and it does look fun BUT! she will scowl and say she is not a dragon, she is water and she's counting the minutes to be water once again.

i Life at Porto
Dragons on Porto will hear tales of the young divinator who always inteprets prophecies with eerie accuracy and whose health is frail from her scrying abilities. She, whom often sits atop a rock on the beach and watches the line where the sky meets the sea. She, whose eyes overflow with the very element that blesses their city.

Dragons on Porto think of Eudora as the mysterious and elusive waif of the Sea.

The other Water Representatives and acolytes, however, just think she's a ******* brat.

She scowls most of the time and pouts otherwise. She's always misbehaving and complaining about stuff be it food, bed or clothes. She has no respect for the other acolytes, their journeys or skills, and being a natural often comes with cockiness and condescending comments often directed to Cali and occasionally Maeve. Eudora often gets into massive discussions with Zara and Morana, and Luar will usually scold her forbidding her from performing divination until she apologises.

She hates dragons, she hates this city, she hates this body.

Why won't the sea take her back?

O canto vinha de longe
De la do meio do mar
Não era canto de gente
Bonito de admirar
O corpo todo estremece
Muda cor do céu do luar
Um dia ela ainda aparece
É a rainha do mar
Quem ouve desde menino
Aprende a acreditar
Que o vento sopra o destino
Pelos caminhos do mar
O pescador que conhece
as historias do lugar
morre de medo e vontade
de encontrar Iemanja

A previsão do tempo diz que o céu fechou
O poder da vitória vai curar a dor
O temporal agora vai cair em mim
A chuva da vitória vai reinar no fim

E quem caiu vai levantar e a gente vai vencer
Sofrimento acabar e o amor vai crescer
Inimigos vão cair ao som desse trovão
Levanta a mão pro alto e sente o rajadão
