He always felt left out.
The other dragons teased him, some even feared him, because his descendant was Naomi. The only friends he had were the yellow fireflies that were his gene, and the more sympathetic, older dragons of the lair who recalled the event. He needed a home that would care for him, regardless of his heritage.
One day, he decided it was enough. He silently slipped out of the den one night and flew to the closest territory that he could think of - Nature.
He stopped only to eat at a nearby pine grove, and he kept on flying. Exhausted, he slumped in a shallow lily pond, and quickly fell asleep.
A black-gray Spiral, out on a hunt, hid her catch and rushed over to the sleeping Tundra. Being the librarian and semi-biologist of the clan, she new a Naomi descendant when she saw one. She curled herself around the fluffy body and hefted him into the air, wings working furiously.
The tundra woke up to the wind whistling in his ears and the sharp smell of herbs. Soon the dragon that was carrying him gently set him down in a soft bed of moss, and slid a plate of violet salad under his nose. He ate slowly, savor in every bite.
Duski, the Spiral, quietly sat next to him and began to hum. "What's your name?" The tundra asked her. "Duski." She replied softly. She looked him over and found a cut on his tail. She untied her neck wrap and pressed it on the wound to stop the bleeding. "Why aren't you afraid of me?" He asked her in a small voice.
The Spiral looked up, and looked him in the eye. She put her talons on his, smiled, and whispered, "Nobody has to be judged for who their family was, and this applies to you." He felt like his heart was going to explode. Right then, in that moment, everything changed forever.
