The sound of the mountains. The steady heartbeat of the cracked ground.
Goran closed his eyes, listening to the quiet heavy thrumming, deep within the core. It was his guidance, his compass, his light.
It allowed him to find out who to help.
Who to heal.
There. The heartbeat, it was louder West to the mountains. It was struggling too, a tell-tale warning of a potential loss of life, be it plant, animal or dragon. The earth was always trying to provide life for the inhabitants above. It was never an easy task.
Goran opened his eyes and took off, narrowing dodging the dry and bare trees. He ducked, avoiding the sharp branches that hindered him. Finally, the heartbeat thumped loudly around him, as he skidded into a clearing, the ground a reddish-brown tone.
Goran took a moment to realize that that was not the earth' natural colour. It was blood.
A Gaoler laid in the middle, barely breathing, barely alive. It didn't even look... dragon any more, just a bloody anomaly that had been slain. Twisted horns grew out from beneath the Gaolers' own, red wounds puncturing his wings, chest and neck. The skulls of creatures laid in a heap beside him.
It looked all too much like a graveyard.
Goran bowed his head, his eyes piercing through the woodbrace, seeing the raw white skeleton underneath. His wasn't so severe, just missing skin at his talons, and dark outer diamond-shaped armour at his chest. But the similarities were too great.
Experiments.
Perfection.
Feral.
Misfit.
Fail.
The words flashed through Goran's mind, the chant so loud it drowned out the heartbeat and everything else that belonged in the present. The past was calling, clawing, dragging Goran down, down into the dark and muddled past, beyond the ground and into the unknown -
Goran shook his head. The Gaoler clearly needed help. And perhaps with the shockingly similarities of their plights, Goran could treat the stranger effectively. Goran cleared his head, letting the melodious tune of the earth fill him, before kneeling down and treating the wounds of the Gaoler.
