"You left me there... cold and wet in the sand. You told me I would become something bigger than myself. You told me I was a droplet in the ocean..."
Zephure the Oracle left his son on the Tidelord's beach as a mere hatchling, knowing he'd be brought away to grow and become powerful under their 'Lord's care. The young skydancer resisted and fought against the waves that brought him down into the Tidelord's inner sanctum, fear and desperation in his heart. He did not want to go-- he didn't want this life of servitude.
The act of exaltation drowned him as it drowned any others not equipped with gills, but the swarms of fish-like dragons were upon him immediately. The surgeons cut his neck and the mages exhaled life back into his chest, returning the ability to breathe. He choked and sputtered, angry that he had been revived only to possibly die in holy wars in the future.
Months later, the rebellious skydancer managed to escape. He swam far, far away to inches of the ocean that he had never felt before and swam even further. At long last, he reached the surface, throwing his head back and coughing at the abrupt change from gills to nostrils. He was free.
When he finally mustered the strength to confront his father once again, Zephure only told him: "I knew you'd return. You're welcome back to the clan, Mosswalker."
