Biography

Scene: Titan's Fall
I'm sorry for the hurt I put you through. For the pain I caused you. Yet you still loved me. Why do you see me worthy? SINS Kelpie

Why is it that hate can cause such destruction? Such loss, and pain, even for the innocents?

Born to Fiero and Zaralis, two twin male Wildclaws. The Southern Icefield was a rough place to grow up, as resources are scarce and so was generosity. The personalities of the dragons that inhabited the area were almost as cold as the climate, and the two youngsters found themselves lacking in love and support.

They were very young to become independent from their parents’ care, as they could not provide the food and shelter to keep 2 thriving younglings. This was completely normal among members of the clan. Although the two Wildclaws kept contact with their parents, the firstborn much more so than the second born. This brought the two to rely very heavily on each other. Working as a unit, at night they shared warmth and food. But over time, they too became selfish and cold towards the outside world.

One incident that strongly contributed towards their “each dragon out for himself” view of the world was the betrayal of a sibling of their parents’. Yes, this dragon was biologically their uncle, but in no way shape or form could this dragon be considered family after what he did.

Shortly after the two emancipated from their parents, they were approached by the older dragon, who was sly and smart. This dragon made the two naive young Wildclaws a promise of warmth and security.

-Let’s start a faction within this clan, just the three of us. We will share food and shelter. Together, we will work to build a small den, and hunt prey that we will conserve and feed on during the coldest months. If we work together, we can get so much further than if we work alone.

Such kindness that was offered by this dragon, their own flesh and blood, that the two sweet young Wildclaws did not hesitate to accept. They got to work immediately.

The firstborn started working on the construction of a shelter, while the second born started an intensive hunting season to gather all the necessary meat to get them through the winter, which the three would spend hibernating in the shelter.

The construction labour of the firstborn wasn’t an easy one. Mainly, because he had no knowledge of how to construct a den that would keep in the warmth and keep out the cold. It took him no time to recur to his uncle for help.

-It’s important for you to learn how to learn these things for yourself, as I won’t always be around to hold your hand. I trust that you can succeed. If I gave it to you just like that, I would be stunting your growth as a dragon.

Motivated by his uncle’s words, the firstborn twin set out on a learning crusade. He exchanged knowledge for favours from other dragons, and slowly gathered the resources to construct the best possible den.

The next challenge was material. Mud and twigs could be dug up from under the snow and stockpiled with fairly reduced labour, but animal pelts and seal blubber to create the insulation proved a massive challenge. They were in such high demand, that all the dragons in the area competed over them. The result was that the strongest dragon got the best resources.

Battered and beaten, the eldest Wildclaw wandered the Southern Icefields empty-clawed for a long time. But battle after battle, he became stronger, and eventually, he was able to compete with other dragons for the ever-dwindling resources. Not only that, but he had to find a way to defend his stockpile of building materials, as his uncle refused to do this too. Apparently, he was too busy hunting to take care of someone else’s job.

The winter approached quickly, and the firstborn twin’s labour became so intensive that he did not sleep for many weeks. Finally, he constructed a den just big enough for the three to spend the cold months cozily, without freezing to death. It was up to his brother to make sure that they didn’t starve, either. His uncle was quick to settle into the den as his permanent home as soon as it was ready, while sending the firstborn out to help his brother gather food.

Come the day that they were supposed to start hibernation, the two twins made their way to the den that they had constructed. They arrived to see their parents and their uncle entering it. Quickly, they approached the trio of dragons.

-Uh… We’re sorry… There’s only enough space and reserves for three dragons… I know you’re our parents, but the 5 of us just can’t spend the winter here…

The three older dragons grinned maliciously.

The next thing the twins knew, they found themselves bound and floating down a partially frozen river. By some miracle, they anchored against a river rock and managed to break free, but the emotional pain they experienced in that moment numbed any sensations they might have had from the frostbite. By the time they made their way back to the den, their parents had blocked off the entrance and there was no way for the twins to access it.

Their rage attracted a much feared sorcerer. This arcane dragon fed off the darkness in their souls, and took great pleasure in the opportunity to enable a revenge from creatures who had been betrayed as badly as these. Together, they enacted a ritual that brought on a humid, blistering summer, only comparable to those seen in the Ashfall Waste. Still deep in hibernation, none of the dragons in the affected area were able to leave their shelter in time, and perished in the heat. Such was the heat, that the firstborn was unable to find shelter and perished from the burns caused by the sun and the heat of the ground.

As his soul ascended, the firstborn felt all the pain and guilt of the suffering that he had caused out of anger and hate. As penance, he pledged his soul to the Icewarden, and baptised himself under the name Sins. He and his brother were assigned to spend an eternity in the catacomb as an overseer to Gaolers. Now, to all those who enter, he mutters…

I'm sorry for the hurt I put you through. For the pain I caused you. Yet you still loved me. Why do you see me worthy?
