Pearl inhaled deeply; the faint scent of lush pine forest longing filled her nose as she padded down the soft fir carpet beneath her. The nearing sound of heavy wingbeats caught her attention as Opalescent crashed through the treetops above, startling Pearl. “FOUND YA!” He panted excitedly grinning down at her. Pearl brushed her tail against his, smirking at him. “I wasn’t even in my hiding spot, cheater.” Opalescent rolled his eyes and raised his head to the sky. “Do you smell that?” He asked, looking concerned. “Smell what?” She gave him a strange look. “I think you had too many frosted violets...” Opalescent glared at her and said, “no, that acid burning smell, and just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean you can blame all of your life problems of violets.” Pearl snorted then tilted her head into the sunbeams peering between the thick branches above. “Hmm... I do smell that. Maybe we should leave this patch of the woods.” Opalescent unfurled his massive wings to take off, just as the entire world went black.
Pearl gasped as the sun suddenly disappeared. Opalescent shrieked and clambered on top of pearl in a wave of fear, but Pearl snarled at him and shook him off immediately. “WHERE IS THE LIGHT ITS GONE FOREVER WERE ALL GONNA DIE” Opalescent roared in fear. Pearl put her head in her talons and yelled “SHUT UP YOU BIG OAF IM TRYING TO THINK!” Pearl racked her mind of any situations where this was ACTUALLY POSSIBLE. Professor Alister mentioned something about a “sudden darkening” … so this has happened before? Something where the sun was covered…. THE MOON! “It’s the eclipse!” Pearl declared, stifling a giggle at the so called “prince of the pack” hiding under a mulberry bush. Opalescent sighed in relief and flopped down on the ground, and muttered, “yeah yeah whatever, it WAS a little scary.” Pearl laughed at him, then flopped down next to him. “I guess we can’t go home in this darkness, we’re gonna have to wait it out.” Opalescent lifted his head to look at her. “That still doesn’t explain that weird smell earlier, nothing from around here smells like that, except Lola’s cooking.” Pearl snickered, then rose to her feet. “Yeah, your right, but its nothing to worry about now, the worst is over.” He nodded but in the back of their heads something whispered, “is it really...?”
