Death, war, famine, pestilence... these four harbingers hover over the shoulders of all dragonkind, lurking to strike into moments of happiness and peace with the urgent reminder that nothing can last forever. Dragons die, they decay, their flesh and their magic drains into the land on which they rot. Such is the course of nature. Of course... even such a mighty hand as nature's can be stayed, can't it? So claim the whispering winds that breeze through every clan, carrying tales of ghosts who yet roam the world or bodies that rise up and walk once more. That which has died, they say, can never live again, but sometimes, somehow, they persist in some other state of being. Undeath. And none stand as more fearsome proof of such stories than Aureana, the Goddess Incarnate of spitting in the face of death. Where Nightmare rules as the God of the Soul Nexus, Aureana defies Him, too. She folds into Her domain those souls who received His guidance along the way, yet still faltered and fell off the course due to their inner doubts. No matter how hard a psychopomp may try to guide dragons to their final rest, some simply are not ready to go. To those who cling to loved ones left behind, or simply those who stubbornly refuse to accept the peace of the beyond, Aureana offers an alluring alternative. Life eternal is such a compelling ideal that few refuse Her. Now, it must be said that Aureana is fair-minded. She would not negotiate a deal that does not bring about mutual benefit. After all, as one legend goes, She Herself could have once been a Goddess of Life, struck down by another God and risen again out of glorious spite. In exchange for veneration and obedience, She will raise up any departed dragon who asks Her favor. Of course, those who live in undeath must feed on creatures still living in order to sustain their existence, be it in consuming flesh or merely draining energy. And, in turn, Aureana doubtless sustains Her own glorious godhood by amassing Her legion of loyal undead. Luckily, as a Voidwalker Herself, She finds no shortage of opportunities to "recruit" from those who wander the Void's corridors. If what She offers is purpose anew, can She really be scorned for her actions?
