Adiris
High Priestess
”It shall be known across the land that the Gods curse the unfaithful.”

Adiris had been abandoned as a hatchling, and had spent most of her youth by herself. She had clawed her way into an old temple, which the highest ranking Pearlcatchers used for worship. She spent most of her time doing what she could. Even if they were small, menial tasks she still devoted time into finishing them. Eventually, after she grew older, she started attending the yearly worship with the high ranking Pearlcatchers, who worshiped the deities above. As time went on, she would continue working to assist the other Pearlcatchers with their purification rituals. Years and decades ago, the Pearlcatchers were a breed of dragons who were the closest to the Lightweaver. Dragons would flock to the highest ranking Pearlcatchers for their wisdom, powers, and faith.

The threat of war between dragon-kind and the BeastClans caused a great deal of panic for many dragons. There was a high demand of dragons seeking the Pearlcatchers’ assistance, but they were unable to keep up with it all. And then, not long after, the first Megaspell hit. The spell was catastrophic, wiping out many, claiming the lives of the high ranking Pearlcatchers and others who were not shielded from the attack. Adiris had been among one of the fallen, but death had not been final. She blinked open her eyes, unaware that she had died, becoming resurrected due to a strange aftereffect of the Megaspell. But she didn't have time to waste; Adiris had to step forwards for those still seeking holy guidance. It was a daunting task; she wasn’t as experienced as her fallen comrades. She traveled further into the temple, almost losing faith until she saw a sign. An ancient statue of a golden dragon, it's wings and claws outstretched, covered in jewels. She felt this had to be what she was waiting for.

When she returned, she was met with a crowd of dragons. Although she was young, it didn’t take long for the flock to become mesmerized by her devotion. She had followers, and soon enough tales of her devotion would spread across the land. She felt she was the closest to the Gods, begging and pleading with sacrifices of her own to protect her followers. However, she and other Pearlcatchers started to find faith in a deity known as the Sea-Goat. They believed that this deity would save them, purge the lands of the fallout, and punish those who were unfaithful. Due to their newfound religion, more sacrifices were needed. Those who were deemed unworthy, typically raiders or similar dragons, were dragged to the temple. Adiris assured her followers they would be rewarded for their sacrifices. However, their calls were never heard.

But that didn’t stop Adiris from continuing her rituals. She did her best to hide her rotted body from her followers. Although, it wasn't like she was exactly facing the threat of her death again. In fact, even though her body was rotted away, she was able to continue living like normal. However, those who did see her rotted flesh assumed she was cursed, cursed by the very Gods she worshipped. She tried to assure them that this wasn't the case, even though a seed of doubt had been placed in her mind. She wanted to be saved, but it felt the Gods were ignoring her. She couldn’t stand in the public eye any longer if she was only going to be met with disgust and disbelief. So with no other option, she fled. However, she was not alone, as a few dragons followed after her. Those who had followed her were also others who had been resurrected after the Megaspell, while others were normal dragons. Both groups decided they belonged with her. Because despite her horrific change, she never shown signs of losing her faith to them.

However, their time together didn't last long. Those who weren't strong enough to fight off the symptoms of radiation poisoning that plagued the land around them died in the very cave they had taken shelter in. Those who did survive were the ones who had the horrific rotted flesh like Adiris. Adiris and her few surviving followers buried the deceased near the cave in a sullen silence. They then looked to Adiris for her guidance, her preaches and prayers they had grown to admire. But she found herself unable to speak. The Gods had ignored her prayers for a long time now, and her faith had wavered. Why hadn’t her devotion to them meant anything? Why was she being punished, being turned into a grotesque, disfigured Pearlcatcher? Why did she have to watch her followers die before her? Just what had she done wrong?

She collapsed down onto her knees, her head held down low. No tears fell from her eyes, but the silence and sorrow was felt by those watching her. They simply gathered around her, sharing the feeling of defeat and loneliness. However, their attempt at consoling her stirred a small desire to try once again. Perhaps she just needed to speak to the Gods again. Perhaps they wanted her to admit some wrongdoings. Whatever they needed to hear from her, she was desperate for it to be heard. So, in one last attempt at salvation, she propped herself up and prayed. Surely she could save herself and those surrounded around her? With her strange, ragged voice, she cried out to the skies above. She recited old verses, admitted a form of defeat, and begged for forgiveness. She spoke and cried out until she was no longer able to speak, finally slumping back down to the ground.

Eventually Adiris and her followers would return to the temple, living out their never-ending lives, while still clinging to the thought of the Gods' blessings finally reaching them.

-Adiris and her followers who had survived the radiation poisoning were turned into Sunbeam Ruins ghouls. Ghouls are dragons who do not age, have no need to eat food, and have become immortal. Ghouls are immune to radiation and are able to heal from it.
-Some Sunbeam Ruins ghouls lost their sanity when they were resurrected, and are therefore considered zombie-like. These types of ghouls are called feral ghouls. Adiris and her followers are among the few Sunbeam Ruins ghouls who kept their sanity.
-Due to their appearance, ghouls are sometimes feared and attacked. This made it hard for Adiris to find new followers, as dragons who weren't ghouls believed she was cursed.
-Adiris finally came to the terms of her death, and the fact that she was resurrected. However, the reasonings behind this is still very foggy to her. She is unsure if Gods brought her back, or if it was simply due to the causes of the Megaspell.
-The area of the temple was heavily plagued with radiation from the Megaspell, and, after several dragons started to die off from the effects of it, Adiris and her followers were forced to relocate again. Although, the ghouls sometimes return to the temple with Adiris, feeling that it is the most holy place to worship the Gods.
-Adiris and her ghoul followers are likely to be the oldest ghouls by several, several decades, that is, if one considers them as still "alive".
-Due to her ghoul body giving off high levels of radiation, dragons say that she causes the “plague”, due to the fact that normal dragons around her sometimes die from the radiation poisoning.
-Offspring list and any offspring not exalted are not considered canon to her lore. Ghouls are unable to reproduce, so therefore she never would have had children (I was just dumb and bred her).
-The deities are most likely, or heavily speculated of being long dead. However, if they were still alive, one could assume that the Plaguebringer would shun all ghouls.
-The only way to kill a ghoul is by dismemberment, or by the use of a strong, magical attack or weapon.
-Based on the ghouls in Fallout: Equestria and Fallout.
