Loki hatched in the Crystalspine Reaches - motherless, fatherless, Arcane-born.

With no Lair and no clan to call his own, he survived to adulthood on the kindness of others, flitting between clans, never quite settling. Once grown, he plied a trade of tricks and illusions: the kind that would entertain hatchlings and earn him scraps of food and treasure, perhaps even a night in the warmth of a cave. More often than not, however, he would find himself crawling into a crack in the rock alone.
On one such evening, he met Angrboda. She knew instantly that he was her charge, and swore to protect him from that moment forward. Shortly afterwards, they found a spot and she carved out the cave that became the clan's first home.

For a time, he and Angrboda were a mated pair and incubated three clutches together - but their union was ill-fated. Loki was too young, too inexperienced to set up the proper wards to protect his fledgling family. As a result, each of their hatchlings was in some way altered by the Arcane energies that swirl through the Starfall Isles. Some changes are more obvious than others, but to Loki's shame and Angrboda's regret, not one of them escaped the Arcanist's touch.

Nowadays, the clan's nests are safer. There are more dragons to protect the clan, more Breath, and Loki is both stronger and wiser. Gone are the days of waiting for eggs to hatch with trepidation, rather than joy.

Still, Loki hoards fertility statues and prays for the Arcanist to be merciful. There is no way of knowing how or why the clan's fortune changed. Perhaps it is the spells that Loki has woven into the walls of the Lair. Or perhaps it is the Arcane Sprite that Loki rescued from a summer thunderstorm, and who has shared her knowledge with the clan. Either way, Loki is not ready to bring new life into the world again - not yet.

Despite the fates of his children, Loki follows the teachings of the Arcanist. He pursues knowledge with a voracious appetite, obsessively honing his skills and heightening his intelligence. Though he may be a small and delicate Fae, Loki's mastery of Breath has made him a powerful opponent. The spells he once used for simple trickery have hardened into powerful arcane shields and attacks, and he is more than capable of dispatching monsters and rival dragons alike. Anyone who challenges him quickly learns not to underestimate him because of his small stature.

Nevertheless, he prefers to take a thoughtful approach to problems. He often clashes with his clanmate Thor - but when they work together, Loki's magic and Thor's physical strength make them a formidable team.
