Life in the Tsunami Flats can be challenging for even the hardiest of dragons. Sometimes it’s safer to blend in and hide than it is to stand out and fight. With this idea in mind, a group of young dragons approached the Tidelord. The youngest, a small guardian, spoke for the group.

“Oh great Tidelord,” she said, “my friends and I are afraid! Your tide pools are well protected by your waves… but there is still much danger for us small hatchlings, and many of us would prefer not to fight. Would you please disguise us so that we may hide when necessary?”

The Tidelord thought for a moment, looking over the hatchlings before him. Then he nodded, deciding to reward their cleverness.

With a wave of magic, the hatchlings were transformed. Their bodies took on the look of the rocky tide pool walls, their wings became like the dappled water within, and across their bodies rocky protrusions grew.

When it was done the Tidelord said, “You will need to continue to be clever. Be precise and still when you hide and you should escape the notice of those who would do you harm.”

The hatchlings thanked him and returned home, where their camouflage protected them and the hatchlings for many generations after them.
