autumn_leaf__ftu__by_moonlight_pendent13-dagq4e5.png In October, the storm stripped the trees of their leaves, which then papered the earth floor.

So like the limbs of the trees that held them, the leaves were battered and stiff,
Once orange like a flickering fire on a cold autumn eve, skeletal veins now transparent in their brown-faded bodies.
So some were plucked like bird feathers off branches of umber and tan thanks to the wind,
And other crumpled sheets, off of their own volition, released their grip and plunged to the crackling floor.
So they fell on the wild walnuts and wooded acorns when they kissed the world of coffee brown,
And when all of the leaves had fallen off their sky-high hosts, they littered the ground with their stiff fingers.
So as their own tones mingled with those of the earth, envyingly constant in the face of the seasons,
The sun peeked through the forest's tree tops, gazing through the peepholes at what autumn's influence engendered.
