As you ascend the stairs of the Mirrorlight Promenade, blinking in the bright Sornieth sun, you hear a patter of claws approach. You look down, expecting to see a hatchling running up to greet you. Instead, it's one of the tiniest dogs you've ever seen.
"Hello!" he barks up at you, smiling. "Welcome to the Soncha Kapa clan! My name is Cooper, and I'm here to show you around. Follow me." He turns, hurrying away. You can't help but smile at his enthusiasm as you follow, curious about this clan. "'Soncha Kapa' means 'City of Light'," Cooper says as he walks, slowing a little so you can keep up. "And as you can see, it's very fitting. We welcome dragons of any age, and any walk of life. From hatchlings to those who have seen countless suns and moons. Many make their dens across the various regions of the Sunbeam Ruins, but some prefer to travel all around Sornieth, only stopping back every once in a while. Others live in nearby regions, and visit when they can." As you walk, you see a small, brown Tundra hatchling tackle what you first assume is another Tundra, this one gray. But then you see the branching horns, and realize it's a Gaoler hatchling. You're still not used to this new dragon, this Ancient that has only recently emerged. Cooper notices you watching and gives a bark of a laugh, his tongue lolling out. "That's Cocoa and Fluff. They're always play-fighting. Sometimes Cocoa takes on dragons ten times his size; she's the bravest of us here." Cooper turns, leading you towards the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. You know this is where Lightweaver watches for dragons crossing the sea, but it seems she isn't here today. Instead you see a regal Wildclaw, her jewels shimmering in the sun as she holds court with a handful of dragons. Cooper puts out a tiny paw to stop you. "Her name is Sol," he says in a hushed voice, obvious respect in his voice. "She's the matriarch of Soncha Kapa. She's been here the longest, and makes most of the decisions, or settles disputes. Everyone respects her." Even without knowing her, you can tell Sol is very wise. She exudes a kind of peace and authority that instantly warms you to her. "Come on, I'll introduce you to her when she's free." Cooper scratches at his ear, then trots away. "I want to take you to Sugarfloss. I bet he's got some delicious treats for you to try." And so you follow the tiny dog, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated under the Sonieth sun. You can't wait to meet more of the Soncha Kapa clan, and see what they have to offer. |
