Biography
BYZANTIUM
Astronomer | Quiet | Dignified | Noble | Wise
LORE
For as long as he can remember, Byzantium has been fascinated by old things. Dusty tomes, ancient runes, hallowed ruins - all were entrancing to him, and his attraction to them was encouraged by the other dragons of his birth clan. He was of Light, after all, and there were plenty of ancient treasures to explore even in the relatively-tame portions of the Sundial Terrace from which he hailed.
When he moved away from home, Byzantium found himself in an Arcane clan full of new dragons who were interesting, but odd in ways that he had never before encountered. They liked to gaze at the stars with rapture in their expressions, and Byzantium couldn't understand the appeal. They were balls of gas, in space, so far away that one could never hope to touch them. So why were the other dragons so fascinated?
One dragon, a transplant from a distant land like himself, finally managed to explain it to him. "What you say is true - the stars are so far away that it's hard to ever know them. But they're older than anything else this world has ever seen. Their light has traveled for hundreds of thousands of years to reach us. If they've gone through all that trouble to make themselves known, don't we owe it to them to ensure that they're seen?"
That dragon, Astra, became Byzantium's first mate, and together they joyfully devoted themselves to learning and knowing the stars. But eventually it came time for them to move on - Astra to serve the Arcanist, and Byzantium to find a new clan. He eventually made his way to an allied clan in the Shifting Expanse. At first it was hard to adjust; the dragons of the Lightning flight worshipped electricity more than they loved the stars, or the sun. But the night sky looked beautiful from the desert, and eventually a new dragon managed to win Byzantium's heart. Khostrior was more interested in the magic of the present than the lessons of the past, but their shared love of astronomy brought them together and they've been happy ever since.
