Dislikes:Others trying to touch her pearl. Don't dare. Quick Personality:Found in an abandoned lair surrounded by corpses, Kayako is a dragon easily irritated and capable of getting into places she really shouldn't be in. Despite her young age, she mutters about things that should've happened before she was born, speaking as if they were personal wrongs against her, and how the dragons in that lair 'deserved it'. She's wary around other dragons, who in turn don't like the way her mane seems to droop and cover her face... Written by LeviathanDemon Familiar: |
Kayako screamed. She fell, tripping over her feet. The raging eyes of her parents were burned into her vision. Their faces were blurred by the smoke, but their expressions were unmistakable. Pure, unbridled rage was what fueled them. Her mate leapt in front of her, snarling. The Tundra’s fur was singed by the flames, and Kayako could see wounds, deep and jagged.
“Run!” he screamed, turning his head briefly to face Kayako.
That was all her parents needed. Kayako’s father reached a clawed hand, almost in slow motion, towards Kayako’s mate. He swiped, causing the Tundra’s eyes to widen. His mouth worked, unable to say anything. His lips moved, covered in blood.
I love you
Kayako let out a cry of pain. She tried to catch her mate as he fell, but was unable to. She bent her head over his body, tears falling in his wounds. She hoped, some desperate plea, that her tears would heal him. Her prayers were unanswered, her cries ignored. Her father growled, swiping at his daughter with the same rage. Kayako grunted, falling next to her mate, a single egg lying beside her.
Kayako rasped on the ground. She took mental inventory of everything as she died. The fire raged around her, and her mate was dying beside her. Kayako watched as he breathed his last, closing his eyes with a pained grimace tugging at his lips. Kayako closed her eyes, crying as she pawed at something, anything that would bring her comfort. He egg. Her egg was beside her. Kayako brought her egg close to her chest, trembling. She was cold, despite the flames. Kayako felt herself fading. She breathed her last, clutching her only egg next to her mate that was dead beside her.

Kayako shot up, shrieking. Her parents were in another room, likely startled awake by her screams. Kayako flopped down in her nest, hot tears streaming down her face. That was the third time she had had the dream. She could still feel the scars. She could still hear the screams. Kayako heard her parents approaching, so she lifted her head in annoyance.“Honey, what’s wrong?”
Kayako gritted her teeth. “Nothing,” she said, keeping her tone as level as possible.
Her parents looked at one another, concerned. They slowly backed out, muttering to themselves.
“Just… Let us know if you need anything…”
Kayako nodded. She shifted in her nest, giving her parents a toothy grin, a grin that resembled a scream of rage more than it did a smile. She lowered her head, pretending to sleep. But there would be no rest today. Revenge was the only thing on Kayako’s mind.
Once her parents left, Kayako crept out of her bed. She rummaged through her horde, looking for what would be her instruments of death. No one would suspect, of course. No one knew her pain. As she rummaged, she came across the rotted egg she had found in her old home. She felt a pang of grief, memories washing over her. She felt tears well up in her eyes once more.
Kayoko lifted the egg gingerly. She knew what she had to do. She let the memories of her past wash over her, taking her back. Her destiny, changed from what her parents wanted, to what she knew was right. Her mate, destroyed when they should have been happiest. Her unborn hatchling, dead in the egg. As the memories washed over her, she felt the acidic taste bubbling up in her throat. She let them come pouring out, in tears and in the dark goo that every Pearlcatcher used to document their past. The egg was covered and the goo hardened. A pearl, as large as one from a Pearlcatcher far beyond her years, now sat in her paws. Kayako wiped away the tears, lifting her head with a fire in her eyes. She would make them pay.
Kayako left her room, gripping the tools in her hands. A firestarter, that was for her parents. A silver blade, sharp and deadly. And the most important of all, an unholy rage that burned every fiber of her being.
Kayako made her way to her parents’ room. They were talking in hushed tones. Kayako pressed her ear against the wall, hiding so she could hear their conversation.
“I’m really worried about her… Ever since she got home from that… That place…” her mother’s soft voice flitted into Kayako’s ear.
Her father sighed. “Yes, but what can we do? She won’t open up to us, she just glares at the wall and mutters about… I don’t even know what. I just wish we could talk to her. I wish we could help her get through this.”
Kayako gritted her teeth. There was no way they would understand. She crept out of the den, thankful now that it was largely made of wood buried underground. It would be easy enough to set on fire, and she’d be able to trap them.
Kayako worked fast, setting up tinder. She soaked straw in lamp oil, glaring as she worked. As a final step, she pushed rocks in front of the lair entrance. Fueled by rage and a desire for revenge, she was able to push rocks four times her size. Letting out a cry filled with hate and anger, she threw the fire starter into the den, dooming her family to a fiery death.
Kayako walked away, determined to never look back. It was the rest of the clan that needed to be hurt now. They would all burn, they would all be put through the same misery that she went through. The thought gave her chills. A part of her was hesitant, but that part would need to die. It would need to be slain, just as she was all those years ago. Destroyed as the family she craved, the family she deserved, was destroyed. Eaten by flames, consumed by pain. They would all regret what they did.
As Kayako approached the square, she scrunched her face up in mock grief. She ran, shrieking, into the crowd.
“Someone! Help! My family, they’re in the fire, they’re dying!”
The crowd froze, a mix of terror and confusion. Eventually, a dragon rushed in the direction of the fire, shouting for others to follow him. Kayako hid her smile, watching as a large portion of the crowd ran after the dragon. They would find it impossible to move the stones she had placed in time. The few that stayed, moved closer to comfort her.
“It’s okay… We’ll save them…” one of the mothers said as she rubbed Kayako’s back.
Kayako threw her head back in a wild laugh. She thrust the blade she carried into the dragon’s heart, chuckling as she twisted the knife. She could feel the mother’s heart beating against the blade. She could smell her fear. Kayako locked eyes with her victim.
“I hope you burn with the rest of them…” she whispered.
The crowd watched, gaping in horror. They twitched, wanting to run in too many directions to make a decision. Kayako threw herself at the crowd, laughing. Her hesitance melted away, replaced with a giddy desire to hurt them. They deserved it after they had turned a blind eye to her pain. After they had destroyed her only chance at happiness.
Some tried to run. Kayako killed the ones standing still first, hissing an insult at each as they died, leaving a final wound as they passed on. The ones that ran didn’t outpace her for long. She caught them, shredding their wings as she caught them. One by one, they each fell to her wrath. Each begged for mercy. Her heart knew nothing of the sort.
Kayako stood over the bodies, panting with satisfaction. They totaled about 17, each bloody and either dead or dying. Kayako tossed her head back, looking to the sky, a wild grin twisting on her face. A cold shiver washed over her. Kayako closed her eyes, hoping her mate was somewhere, exacting the same revenge. She begged whatever force there was to know her pain, and to give her clanmates tenfold of that.
Kayako sauntered down the path to her lair, dropping the knife along the way. The dragons were struggling to get into the lair. Her family’s screams still rang through the air. Kayako smiled to herself. They knew her pain. She heard the shouts of the dragons desperately trying to get into her lair. To save them. Their efforts were in vain, and Kayako’s family slowly grew quieter as they died.
The dragons shouted. The clan leader was loudest amongst them. “Come on! We can still save them, it’s not too late!”
Kayako watched, hoping the fire would consume them as well. Her prayers were answered and the fire suddenly blazed up, catching most of the dragons off guard. They shrieked, batting at themselves to put the flames out. The fire was not merciful, burning hotter and hotter as the dragons were consumed by the fire. Kayako shouted down at the dragons.
“If there ever is a next time, be sure to save the poor fool who just wanted to live with her mate in peace. I hope you all rot in whatever afterlife you are granted, and I hope every last one of you suffers until the end!”
Her clan looked up at her, eyes filled with tears. They begged for pity, trying to clamber up the slope as they burned. As each got closer, Kayako pushed them down, sending them screaming down the slope. When they reached the bottom, they would be dead, bodies smoking.
The clan leader was the last to make his way up. His face was charred, only one eye was open. His fur was singed, revealing a raw, pink muscle. With his good eye, he looked at Kayako, breathing heavily.
“Why… Did you… Do this…” he rasped.
Kayako sighed happily. “My only regret is that I wasn’t able to do this sooner…”
