He gazes 'pon the earth."

A flash of light.

The star fell across the dark sky, trailing flames behind it. A crater of obsidian spread out from its impact.

From the smoldering flames within unfurled a dragon. Lava flowed beneath his scales. His wings burned with the heat of a thousand suns. Flames shimmered and danced upon his spiraling form.

Calcifer, the Watching Flame.

The dragon burrowed deep within the earth. He journeyed towards the source of all fire. At last he came to rest in the heart of a volcano. The heat felt like home. Blind eyes closed in contentment as he swam through the magma.

Though sightless, Calcifer could see all. From his lair so close to the core of Sornieth, he felt a connection to the world's heart flame. This connection opened his sight to every hearth, every fire, every dim ember across the entire world.

Glee blazed within Calcifer as his sight roamed from flame to flame. A crackle of sparks heralded his arrival in hearth after hearth. Through the fires, he saw all.

"Legend has it that if you gaze into the flame, you may see Calcifer gazing back.
And for those who look long enough, he may grant a fiery vision..."
