The myth of the magma dragons tells of coatls borne so close to the volcano they become a part of it. Because their veins are filled with magma, visible trough their tertiary, they can't ever leave their birthplace or they will harden into true obsidian.
The myth of the magma dragons is not entirely true. They do get borne close to volcanoes and they do inherit some of its properties. True lava does not hurt them either. The heat burning inside them is incredible, and stays molten hot no matter the weather or temperature. They can journey the world like any other species, as they bring the warmth with them. Only one magma dragon is needed to keep a whole, ancient lair warm trough a normal winter.
It may be that the first magma dragons were the coatls, as they are native to the Ashfall Waste, but today any breeds that has settled long enough can breed one.
