General Bartholomew "Barry" Rargalson
"Well, are we DRAGONS, or are we CHINCHILLAS?!"
Name Reasoning: Hims a roumd berry boi.
Lore: Barry exudes confidence, constantly pep talking those he's in charge of or around. As the one who's now in charge of training those who have been chosen for exalting, he's turned training in the Mire into both a science AND an art.
While his charisma both intimidates and draws in many people and creatures, his one constant companion is "Archibald", who is, most certainly, in Barry's words, "I don't know, he's probably a weird possum or something."
(Guide for Coli Guides.)
Background: Tiant had separated from her usual partner at the Auction House for the day, as they had plenty to find for the day. She was confident from the meeting she'd had with Dignis, Helix, and Anthina before heading out that she and Starfall could work separately and find a dragon to adopt into the clan that satisfied all of the requirements.
Mostly, though, Tiant was on the hunt for someone who would be the clan mage. Dignis had said something about needing an Arcane flight dragon, so that meant her and Dignis were in the same headspace, for sure! Also, he'd made some comment about plant-eating dragons; that probably had to do with the vast stores of plant based foods they still had left in the Hoard.
Eventually, after asking around for hours, she came across an arcane clan adopting out a snapper hatchling who had the right color range and primary/secondary colors. The drawback was certainly the tertiary not matching up to what they needed, but that was fine. The fact that he was the child of a magic researcher only sweetened the deal for Tiant!
So she selected the hatchling, signed some paperwork, and handed over the adoption fee.
From there, she met up with Starfall, and the three of them headed back to the clan lair.
All the while, the newly adopted Barry barely said much, occasionally asking some things about his new home, or making some optimistic comment.
The only thing that seemed to darken his demeanor would be when Tiant would begin talking about how she'd picked him to be the first clan mage. Something about that seemed to rub him the wrong way, but only Starfall seemed to pick up on that as Tiant simply rambled on about how wonderful having a mage would be.
When they arrived home, they archived Barry's arrival, fed him, then Starfall brought him to spend time with the other hatchlings.
The next day, Dignis stopped by to see the new adoption.
"I just don't think Tiant was listening when I said I needed a Mire Flyer," Dignis commented to Starfall. "I know I'm equipped to handle battling the high level Coliseum venues, but the Mire just has some stuff that Arcane dragons are better suited towards. That, and we have some looted battle stones that are just sitting in the hoard, unused. I think it'd be a good use to just... actually use them."
"But we DO need a mage," Starfall pointed out, eyeing Barry who he noted was "playing" within earshot of the conversation. "Why not just wait for another arcane dragon adoption?"
Barry seemed to... slow down his play... become more solemn.
"This hatchling is perfect for the role! Why would I not just take him under my wing?"
"Well, Tiant already asked me to set up some tutoring sessions with Shinered..."
Dignis squinted at Starfall; the tone he'd taken... it began to clue Dignis in a little. Following the other dragon's gaze to Barry, Dignis looked back at Starfall.
"What? What's going on?" Dignis questioned.
"Barry, could you come here, please?"
Barry looked up, then began trudging over. Soon enough, though, the hatchling slumped in Dignis's shadow.
"Barry, if you had a choice, what kind of work would you like to train to do for the clan?" Starfall asked.
Glancing from one adult to another, Barry's eyes narrowed some after a moment, then he smiled.
"I'd like to fight in the Coliseum," he puffed out his chest.
Smirking, Starfall gestured at the young snapper while looking at Dignis.
"Sometimes," he commented, "the best solution is to simply ask."
