Biography
Elen
Lair Leader
Skifter wrote:
Elen spent every moment in her birth clan being compared to her siblings. She was never fast enough, never strong enough, never smart enough in her family’s eyes. The pressure would have been enough to crush anyone’s spirits, but Elen tried her hardest to see the good in life anyways.
When she was finally ordered to leave her birth clan, Elen left with raised hopes and her head held high. Sornieth had more to offer than her clan ever would, and she swore she would find it.
Elen wandered the Ashfall Waste, making friends where she could and learning the ways of the forge. Eventually she encountered a Guardian with scales as bright as the lava around him: Drakairus. It was thrilling, in a way, for Elen to introduce herself– this dragon could not compare her to her siblings, because he didn’t know them. It was just Elen, and he could know her as she truly was.
Drakairus took a liking to Elen’s chipper attitude, and invited her to join his clan. He was the leader, come to find out, although he was looking for a replacement. (Later, Drakairus would tell Elen that from the moment he had met her, he had always had her in mind for the position.)
Elen’s new clan welcomed her with open arms. Skyfire, Drakairus’s mate, made fast friends with her, as did a handsome Mirror dragon named Hasad. (Elen fell head over heels the moment he cracked a bad joke, but she kept that part to herself.)
Eventually, Drakairus broke the news to Elen that she was to be his replacement as leader. She was just as overwhelmed as she was flattered, but she accepted the job graciously and Drakairus couldn’t have been more proud.
The clan’s celebrations for the Flameforger’s Festival were a blast under Elen’s direction, to the point where an Emberglow Gem Guardian was drawn to their fireworks. She introduced herself as Flicker and asked for the clan’s leader: when everyone looked to Elen, the Spiral’s heart warmed. They had accepted her.
Flicker glued herself to Elen’s side that night and insisted that they were to be friends now. Elen was more than happy to go with it, and with her familiar’s guidance, they will lead the clan into greatness.

Children! Settle down!" Elen called into the night. "If you want me to tell you my story, you must be calm." She glanced up at the stars, waiting for the tumbling hatchlings in front of her to finally calm down. The hatchlings were always rowdy on story night. When the parents finally calmed their children, Elen spoke,
"My story starts long, long ago, before any of you were even born. Both my mother and my father were very neglectful, and gave my two younger siblings lots of attention- thinking that I would be okay by myself. In truth, I was sad and lonely without anyone in my family to love me. Even at a young age I started wishing for freedom from my lair," Elen cleared her throat, tears obviously starting to form in her eyes, but tried to keep from crying in front of the clan.
"So, in the middle of the night, I ran away from them. I kept nothing that was previously my own, and left. For months I roamed around the Ashfall Waste, unsure of where I should go. Then, I stumbled upon this clan."
"They loved me like I was one of their own, and gave me great gifts. I felt a sort of loyalty to them, despite the fact I had known them for very little time. I was so much happier in this little place. So I worked hard to benefit our community. I wanted others to know how amazing life can feel when you're not trapped anymore. It got to the point that when it was time for the election, I was appointed as leader. It was the greatest day of my life."
"I tell you this, children, because I want you to grow up and achieve. I want you to work hard and overcome any difficulties you may come across. I also want you to know I am here for you, and I will talk with you anytime. Goodnight." And with that Elen lifted off towards the sky, stretching her wings to get ready for the night. She looked up and whispered at the full moon, "Thank you for leading me home."
