BIO
..................................................................................

The small hatchling huddled between the roots of a tree, Sobbing inconsolately. He had become lost while playing and somehow ended in the forest beyond the inner wards. The light had drained away as the sun had set, and forgetting to heed his mother's warnings he did not think to follow the last rays of light as they slipped away. Instead he had become even more lost, before the sound of something nearby scared him into hiding among the tree roots. The sounds of the branches clacking together in the wind and the distant sounds of nocturnal animals rousing themselves only served to paralyze him more. The branches knocking overhead made him think of bones, and the sounds of animals made him worry that a predator might find him. He knew most creatures did not hunt dragons but a hatchling like himself may be all to easy a snack for a passing beast. A gust of wind came up again and he shrank deeper into his rooted sanctuary a wail rising from his throat to join the loud clatter of branches overhead and he squeezed his eyes shut tightly.
As quickly as it had come up the gust fell away, the wind in the trees died and instead became a soft sighing, the leaves barely moving. In the absence of sound he heard something else instead, light footsteps drawing nearer to him. In horror his eyes flew open, sure he would see the maw of some beast come to gobble him up. Instead he saw the figure of a dragon, an imperial. The distant, form moved slowly and was surrounded by a dim light. No, that wasn't quite right It wasn't that he was surrounded in light. Instead is was as if the dim runes along his sides and covering his horns seemed to absorb the darkness makin the area around him lighter by comparison. He shuffled toward the hatchling, each step slow and heavy but his footsteps were soft. He looked down at the little waif his eyes hardly visible in the dark, but clearly the yellow of a light dragon. It was almost a surprise when he spoke, the placid smile on his face splitting to let out a whispered, "There, there. Are you alright?"
This proved too much for the hatchling and he began to wail again, not in fear but in relief. He would not die alone and afraid in the forest, this dragon with a kind voice who seemed to take away the darkness had found him.
"Shhh," the imperial said the sound was drawn out as the trees and the breeze seemed to echo it in unison. He reached down and plucked up the little hatchling who came into his arms willingly. He arched around to set the little one down, carefully cradled between his massive wings and set off in the direction of home.

---
It had not taken long for the hatchling to doze off, the gentle movement and the quiet shushing in the trees lulling him to sleep. He did not know long he had slept before he was woken by the imperial removing him from his back. He protested meekly but kept his footing when set down.
his savior raised a claw to point a gentle smile making his face softer, the hatchling quickly turned to look only to see the lights of of his home just past the trees. He squealed with joy and took off at full pelt without a second thought. He had gone quite a ways before he remembered the kind dragon who had brought him home and turned to look back. He was nowhere to be seen, only the treeline in the distance the branches of the trees waving in the wind.

This is how a dragon who enjoyed the isolation of the forest over the company of other dragons became known as the Travelling Tree.
