Mokomoko has always been up to his elbows in art. As a young boy whilst he very much enjoyed the physical activities, he would still hurry to finish up so he could go back to drawing. It was this interest that put him on the path to be the storyteller for the Āwhātōpana clan. This was what he hoped his life would be, gentle and quiet with no need for his large physical frame to be utilised in anything except a casual spar. Alas, when war swept through his home in the Emerald Archipelago, he was not spared the violence. When the Āwhātōpana fell, their home city of Tuatara burned, Mokomoko was perhaps the only survivor.

He doesn't talk about it, as you may expect. What's known is that his sister Nakahi died, and he carried her body to a friend of their uncle's, a mage known as Nightshade. It was Nightshade that brought Nakahi back to life, and as such put both of them in debt. Mokomoko fell into a deep depression, simply allowing himself to be ordered about by Nightshade. There was certainly no art in the world now: just the grim plodding towards creating the Thanatos Syndicate alongside Koschei and Mischa Urusov.

Much like his sister he is an imposing man, but in the formation of the Syndicate he largely left the violence to her- as much as possible, anyway. Instead, he mostly worked with Mischa to help stabilise the base of their new enterprise, making sure it wouldn't collapse in on itself. As the years wore on, including Nightshade's betrayal, Mokomoko let Mischa handle the majority of the organisational work which allowed him to return to his roots.

You can tell what it is that he enjoys just by looking at him. He's covered in tā moko, intricate tattoos that tell the story of his clan, piercings of bone that dot his face like pearls, and always in the crook of his arm or shoved in a back pocket is a journal full of art. He chronicles the history of the Syndicate as well as preserving the history of the Āwhātōpana. Personality wise he's loud, but his eyes are as soft as a doe's. He's kind inside and out, a warm man who wouldn't hurt a fly if he could help it. That being said, he does often volunteer to guard their caravans and the less martially capable members of the Syndicate when they travel through rough territory.
