The adopted daughter of the matriarch, Elara, Nyira is very much the princess of Hearthhome Citadel, even without an official rank. On first impression, she may seem like nothing one would expect of a daughter of Elara. She tends to space out, and her thoughts can even stray in the middle of a conversation, forcing dragons trying to talk to her to repeat themselves more than once. Her mother tries to get her to pay attention, but also speculates that it might be a side effect of Nyira's magic being tapped on as a source. The only thing she can focus her attention span on for longer than five minutes is her familiar, Firewhiskers, who also makes sure she doesn't wander too far in her blurness.

Abandoned as an egg because she was shade-touched, she was left in the Blacksand Annex and thus influenced by Elara's magic when she awakened. Nyira is still shade-touched, but the amount of fire magic in her body managed to suppress the shade's power. After she hatched, the immense amount of fire she had in her body flowed through not just her veins, but through her entire belly in the form of Capsule. The last signs of shade magic are on her eyes, which are a darker shade than normal.

During the war, Nyira stayed in hiding. After the war, Elara and Blazeflower were unable to reignite the Furnace. They found Nyira and decided to use the fire within her to bring the Wastes back to life. However, as a result of her shade influence, she is unable to use magic. Elara used her powers to tap on the reserves of fire within Nyira. This put Nyira at risk of being taken over by the shade again, thus for safety Elara took the younger Imperial under her wing and took care of her.
