Remedy xxxMost of Fernwood's residents have found some purpose in their lives. Tucked safely in the depths of the forest, Fernwood is protected from the wars and conflicts of the outside world, a small safe haven for refugees and wanderers and all those who wish to live their lives out in peace. The clan welcomes all species and flights, and it is one of those rare places where beastclans and dragons walk under a flag of truce, where flight allegiance does not pose a barrier between friends, lovers, and colleagues. So long as one is willing to put prejudice and grudges behind them and agrees to keep the peace, they are welcome to make a place for themselves in the vast stretches of wilderness. xxxMany have taken up work as hunters, farmers, gatherers, or healers for the clan, and others have become artists of all varieties. Clan members take care of each other, and usually, the society exists in relative harmony. One dragon, however, has a role that isn't quite as noticeable as the blacksmiths or the hunters or the potion-makers, but dragons who have stayed with the clan for longer lengths of time will attest that she is one of the most important dragons in Fernwood. For even with an idealistic vision of goodwill, some conflict is simply inevitable. Someone has to keep the peace. xxxWhen arguments break out, Sýkorka is there, ready to act as a mediator and make sure a compromise can be reached. When dragons aren't feeling their best, Sykorka is by their side with kind words and their favorite goods from Caltha's bakery. She remembers the name of every dragon, their stories and quirks, their favorite foods and their best friends. Many outsiders are skeptical of her; some consider her weak for her kindness, or untalented. Those who stay always change their minds. Although she doesn't have any practical talents- her baking is mediocre, her hunting is hopeless, her artwork is... well, nobody has the heart to tell her it's bad, but it's rather unexceptional- she's somehow forged a place for herself as the gentle and empathetic glue holding the clan together. xxxThe same day she arrived in the clan and dug herself a home, a small cozy den on the banks of a stream, another dragon arrived: a massive blue Guardian by the name of Vinca, worn out from a months-long journey that had already taken her across half of Sornieth. Bold, confident, and full of determination, she insisted she only intended to spend one night before she continued her Search. But the moment she saw Sýkorka, who was on the banks of the river picking flowers to decorate her new home and jokingly lamenting about how her hands were too stubby to tie them together into a daisy-chain, Vinca realized her Search was over. xxxNow, a few years later, the two of them are a rather unlikely duo: Vinca is strong, energetic, and more than a little intimidating, but her fuzzy, gentle, and softspoken charge-turned-wife loves her just the way she is- at least, for the most part. It took Sýkorka a bit of work to convince Vinca that what she needed wasn't a constantly vigilant and threatening bodyguard, but simply someone to help her make the dragons of Fernwood feel safe. In the end, though, the two of them made an excellent pair. Vinca has mellowed out a little and made sure that the dragons of the clan know that she is no threat unless she needs to be, and has forsaken her past vision of destroying all those who step close to her charge in favor of solidifying the trust others put in her simply by virtue of being married to Sýkorka. And Sýkorka herself has gained a significant amount of confidence knowing that her big buff wife has always got her back. The two of them can be found enjoying freshly-baked goods, getting up to mischief with hatchlings, making daisy chains, and generally enjoying each other's company. |
