Other: Fled from Gaolers who sought to purge dragons that they saw as Shade-Tainted (read: Non-Gaoler Ice dragons). Met and joined forces with Comedy and Thane along the way.
Houji opted to go into Food Science to improve his cooking. It's worked quite well so far.
He met his first familiar after he caught them raiding the pantry. They ended up sticking around after developing an appreciation for cooking, and now helps him out.

The dining area that the Tuck Shop and Bar are located in also has several of automats with a wide range of pre-cooked meals and snacks, plus a huge cooler stocked with a bunch of canned, bottled, and pre-mixed drinks. The automats have stasis arrays so food doesn't go stale, and Calx is in charge of keeping the automats and cooler stocked.
Houji, Makaira, and Xiphii take orders for anyone who wants fancier/custom meals, and Calx is gradually getting more confident at cooking.

Houji met this particular River Flight after he caught them raiding the pantry. They now help him out whenever he cooks, and the two work together as a team beautifully.
Houji really didn't expect his broiler to become animate, but become animate it did. He doesn't have to tell it to shut up - instead, he has to tell it to stop bouncing around, lest it spills its contents and creates workplace hazards.
