Biography

Minty
This became his name over eras of being called Minty. Some shorten it to Mint, but most try to be cute and add the extra 'y'. He prefers Mint, as he knows those cute names come before a plea. In case you didn't catch on: he smells of fresh mint and in the Underworld such a smell would be nonexistant if it wasn't for Minty. Truth is, even he doesn't remember his real name.

Though that doesn't mean he doesn't remember where he came from. Ever since he was born, he was destined to guide souls. His clan was deemed the Will-o'-Wisps by others, as they did not care much to focus on names. They fed off lost souls that they tricked into following them. This could happen in many forms, though their lazy and easiest method was to target the weaklings with magical, blue fireflies. With evolution they learned to find other attractive methods to lure in more delicious souls. However, Minty was different. He didn't feel anything from taking souls. If anything, he found it disgusting how the fools fell for their tricks.

Minty was a strange one among his clan but it wasn't until he refused to inbreed that they decided to alienate him and forced him to leave. It wasn't that he was completely against the idea but he simply did not like them. The outside was dark, cold and merciless on the lone wolf. He refused to eat souls despite how instinctively attracted to him they felt, and so it was not long before a grim reaper came by to do Death's job. The grim reaper would only guide you up to the entrance and then push you into the hole. At this point in time, it was a nasty way down. You would drop onto a small island surrounded by a river in a cavern full of spiders, moss and muck. The river was flowing harshly, filled with thousands of lost souls in search for the after life. He knew he too would have to somehow navigate among them.

Just before he went on to travel, he was stopped with a hold on his shoulder. He remembers his name was spoken but he cannot remember still what was said. He looked up to catch a large beast - only to right then recognize who it was:
Hades . He was caught up with confusion as he didn't understand how he knew this. Before long Hades spoke, "I need a gatekeeper."

Hades gave him a boat to guide those who could pay and a friend Toridae to help him move along those that insisted. Over all, he did not have to put much effort into it as his very existance brought the souls to him first. Maybe it was his smell, maybe it was his wispy fireflies, or who knows really. Often times through history the line would grow longer as those in the living world would do as they do. Those times he did not care to give each one individual attention. Though there have been no more than a handful of cases where he took pity on a soul and guided them. The coin needed to pay comes from the purity of the soul, some were emerald, others were ruby or sapphire. That helped him know where to guide them. Although he knew about the coins long before, because it was the ultimate hunt for his Will-o'-Wisps clan to get their hands on an emerald coin. He thought perhaps his clan was the reason Hades chose him, they were all attractive to other beings and souls like that or that perhaps it was because the souls and coins never urged him to hunt. It was different here, where people had nothing left but to offer him the coin. That's why, when he would grow bore, he would allow the soul to make a case for themselves. Maybe for pity, but mostly he would allow one to pass if they could make him laugh or if they could outsmart him.

This became his name over eras of being called Minty. He is mostly known as the gatekeeper to the underworld. The one who helps those lucky souls pass over the river of despair if they can pay the price. To know more, check him out:
