Biography
Advisor Altus
Name Meaning: "a high place"; "deep"; "lofty"; "noble"
Lore:
A suave fellow, he seems to have a knack for diplomacy. He's managed to show his competency for coming up with solutions to problems, and earned the respect of Dignis. Tiant has been more wary of his advice, but still admits the ingenuity involved.
Though he's never outright said much about his past, he occasionally slips some medical knowledge that's uncommon amongst the average dragon.
Currently courting with Myrna, though they aren't exclusive.
Background:
He plummeted into the clan's territory one day, injured before he'd even hit the ground.
Starfall was the first to get to him: Stella's first prophecy was of Altus's fall, allowing Starfall to catch sight of the crash.
When Starfall reached him, Altus barely held on to consciousness, but just enough to ramble off "proper procedures" on how to help him. Starfall got him back to the lair where Altus talked the younger dragons through how to help stabilize him.
Later that day Dignis, Tiant, and Myrna returned later from the Coliseum. Dignis and Tiant, understandably, had some concerns upon seeing Altus and his injuries. Starfall led them away from their guest and talked them through what had transpired. Myrna stayed behind with the Skydancer, softly singing to him while he struggled to sleep through the pain.
The matriarch and patriarch, after hearing what Starfall had to say, decided to let Altus rest, and took care of some more pressing concerns for the night...
The next day, Dignis and Tiant returned to check on Altus and ask him questions. He gave mostly vague answers, much to Tiant's frustration; eventually, Dignis convinced her that Altus's privacy should be respected, and that their guest didn't seem to want to harm them. They'd need to let him recover, then worry about the rest, though.
In the mean time, Altus directed Skyfall, Fascia, and Doni on items they'd need to procure and things they'd need to do to help him heal faster. Fascia was especially curious about what this Skydancer had to say, though her questioning him on things that didn't help him directly proved to usually be fruitless... Every night that he was bedridden, he'd also get a visit from Myrna who'd sing to him, insisting she was helping to heal his soul.
Soon enough, though, he was up and about, though still healing. During that time he often accompanied Myrna, and the two of them grew close. So close, in fact, that Altus asked to join the clan in hopes that Myrna could be his mate. Dignis talked Tiant into accepting him into the clan, in part because the medical expenses they'd incurred while fixing him up would go to waste if he just left the clan, after all.
So Altus joined the Digna Familia Clan, and shared a first nest with Myrna.
After that, Altus would go to Dignis whenever a problem became evident in the clan, suggesting a rational compromise or solution.
For instance, a conflict once broke out between Fascia and Arche over the ownership of a book. Altus went to Dignis and suggested that the patriarch set up a common library. Books were essential to informed opinions and decisions, after all, and it could cut down on fights over reading materials, certainly. The dragons who had lots of books would simply have to contribute, though, as the library wouldn't be able to thrive without them! Yes, that only seemed fair.
The resentment at having to house their books publicly ended up overriding the personal feelings between Arche and Fascia, but eventually their anger subsided into a begrudging acceptance. Besides, this way they were able to read books that others had had, so... well, it worked out for them in the end, they supposed.
With this sort of thinking and problem solving, Altus proved to be a truly capable advisor.
The other thing of note, however, is how much medical knowledge Altus seems to possess. Not only the competence he showed in telling the clan how to heal his own injuries, but also, once, Hortus fell gravely ill as a hatchling. No one knew how to help him, and all thought he might surely perish. That was when Altus stepped forward and took charge, telling the clan what herbs and minerals to get. He had Fascia help him prepare the ingredients, then administered them to the ailing hatchling over the course of two weeks. Hortus began looking better a day after starting the regiment, and only continued to improve until he looked completely better just over a week after Altus's medicine.
When people inquired as to if Altus was a healer, he'd simply say that he merely knew what could help the boy. More keen observers of the incident noted how nervous and hesitant Altus had been in comparison to his usual confidence when he stepped in to help...
Whatever the case, Altus has proven to be resourceful, earning his stay in the clan.
