The corridors stretched on and on, wires snaking along the floor, in and out of the walls which consisted mainly out of servers. At a certain point this must stop. The cords followed one path, a path that led to the deepest part of the data library. At its core, surrounded by wires, connected to everything sat a single robot.

The lights behind his eyes sprang to life upon your arrival.

>Who are you?

I am rCDB-01, the main server master. I am here to answer any questions you have about this place.

Even though I appear to be this tiny machine that is currently talking to you, don't be fooled! I am actually the very room we're standing in, the wires in the walls and the servers that form these halls.

>Where am I?

I am proud to announce that you are in the great city of Ferside! It is the capital of the New World and also the first city that was rebuilt after the Last War.

If you wished for a more specific location, you are currently in the main servers of Ferside's largest database. We are located in the center of the city, among most administrative buildings.

>The Last War?

The Last War is the war that led the entire world to its downfall. Greedy leaders wanted more and more money and power, but with natural resources like oil becoming depleted tensions between countries rose.

A new resource, stardust was discovered and everyone scrambled for this brand new wealth and quarrels arose. It didn’t stop there. With their advanced weaponry developed in the “times of peace” the most horrible war happened.
Not much remained of the world, only dust and ruins. The few who survived the war had to rebuild the society.

No more war. No more poverty. That’s what they strived for. And now, the city of Ferside stands as a proud monument of their achievements.


>Stardust?

Stardust is our widely used new form of energy.

It is formed when a meteor shower passes by and the meteorites burn up in our atmosphere, the heat melting the rock and crystallizing. The excess energy infuses the crystals, making them extremely powerful.
This is called dust genesis among the scientific circles and starfall in common tongue.

They are in fact so saturated by energy that in its pure form, humans nor most machinery can handle the stardust for more than a few seconds without contracting possibly lethal burns or Acute Dust Poisoning, also known as Dust Sickness or Starburn.
To render stardust usable, it has to undergo multiple phases of distillation, decreasing its intensity and increasing the amount of dust produced. Each batch has its own colour to avoid any mishaps, since even distilled, stardust retains its toxic qualities.
They aren’t as deadly as pure stardust, but may cause Chronic Dust Poisoning (CDP) after long exposure or incorrect handling.

All variants of Dust Poisoning in living beings manifest these symptoms:
-A burning sensation
-Fever
-Tingling
-Restlessness
-Hypersensitivity
-Inability to focus
-Tremors
-Hallucinations

If you experience any of these, contacting a doctor is priority, even though they may seem minor at first.


For machines, incorrect dosage or distillation degree may cause the following:
-Overheating
-Melting of inner circuits and other components
-Loss of data or faulty inputs


>What do the colours mean?

Each colour assigned by design or uniform has its own meaning. They indicate one's function within the society.

A dark blue indicates that the individual is part of the military somehow, be it police or a general.
A light blue is worn by those meant to communicate with others on a large scale, like a receptionist or newscasters.
Individuals that do administrative work like a secretary have purple colouring. I handle large amounts of information, so I’m purple too!
Green is worn by those in the medical sector.
Yellow is for those working in the industrial sectors.
Researchers have orange as their main colour. Their field can be further indicated by secondary colours.
Hot pink indicates that an individual is part of a special unit. Consider yourself lucky if you’ve never seen one.
All of these colours may come paired with other “secondary” colours to avoid any misinterpretations by vague roles. Most commonly paired with other colours are orange, purple, light blue and hot pink.

These colours do not show one’s rank, though.


>How are the ranks indicated then?

Very simple. Each approved uniform has a set design. The collars of these uniforms indicate their position in the hierarchy. A more complex design indicates a higher position.
