It was so bright that even with his eyes squeezed shut he could see it.
The flash was first, then the sound came after. The last sound he ever heard. Well, despite the constant deafening ringing he was now plagued with.
Then finally, the shockwave ripping through all life and land. Throwing him sky high and down into unconsciousness.
When he opened his eyes the world was not the same. Miles upon miles of destruction and death, and within it, plants growing. Strange plants. Ones that shouldn't be there. They clung to his body as he walked through them, weighing down his wings.
A sign of radiation from powerful nature magic.
In the days that followed, strange green fireflies flooded the wastelands. They glowed with that sickly magic. But even though they were wrong he did not hate them, he couldn't. He had had his fill of hatred for an eternity. They seemed to sense that and gravitated to him.
In shock, he clung to those fireflies like a raft, following them in a sickened daze until he was found and nurtured back to health.

Centipede, they called him, the lone survivor.
