Purity

I tried to keep my face expressionless but God’s this was boring. I was currently standing in the throne room listing to dragons drone on about all their problems. The King and Queen also seemed to be getting annoyed with all the complaining dragons and the heat. They were also probably starting to sweat in the summer’s heat. That was the one horrible thing about being a light clan, sure it was almost always sunny but when summer came the sun seemed to feel the need to rain down extra heat onto the poor dragon.

The King and Queen however had to wear thick robes that I could only imagine made the heat feel a hundred times worse. Usually these days were a mix between people coming and presenting gifts and maybe a few whinny dragons, but not today. No all the dragons were doing today was complain and yapp about how hard their life is. And yes some of the dragons had it hard but some of the dragons coming in here were just trying to get free stuff and it was obvious to everybody in the room. Finally the royal couple seemed to have enough and called for a break. They quickly stood and walked outside I followed closely behind them.

I followed the up a battle tower and onto the walkway on the walls. It was always amazing to come up here. The walls were about a hundred feet high and you could see everything from up here it was beautiful. Plus there always seemed to be a breeze up here which was great to cool off in. I followed behind the royal couple close enough to protect but far enough away that didn't feel crowded. I slowed my gait with them and came to a halt as the pair looked out on the Kingdom.

I kept vigilant for any signs of danger, when the unthinkable happened. The queen started to lean over the ledge to get a better look at something below when a large breeze suddenly came in and knocked into them. I didn't even give myself a second to think before I jumped off the wall after the Queen. You might be wondering why she didn't just fly but the robes she wore caught and pinned her wings causing her to be unmobile. I pushed my wings as fast as they could go towards the queen.
I knew I only had a few seconds at best to catch her before she hit the ground. At the last moment I dove under her snatching her around the waist with my claws. I gently lifted her back up and set her down next to the King. I watched as he showered her with kisses and hugged her close before he turned to me.

“Thank you so much! How could we ever repay you?” He asked. I was a bit shocked to say the least. Why would he need to repay me? It was literally my job to protect and serve them. I politely explained to the King my thoughts. “Your highness, there is no need to repay me. It is an honor to protect and serve you” I said in a calm voice. The king just laughed at my response shaking his head before mumbling something about honorable knights.
