Growing up in the sheltered palace walls, Lyra never knew much about the rest of the kingdom. The only time she ever left was when her father, the king, took her on trips to the market or out to the coast to look out onto the sea and relax. She loved their little excursions! They only strengthened the bond between the two of them. Throughout her upbringing, Lyra learned what it truly meant to be royalty. With the help of some of the palace staff, who raised her arguably more as her father did, she developed the skills to become a kind and noble leader for the kingdom in the future. She never expected that she would have to use those skills so soon... One day, while out hunting, her father was assassinated by an unknown enemy. The king was dead. In their panic, the citizens turned to Lyra for guidance. She was to become the ruler now, after all... Despite her young age, she had no choice but to step up and begin to take charge of the kingdom herself. Her training aided her well, but she wasn't without fault. Still mourning over the loss of her father, Lyra was still unable to carry out certain royal duties on her own. The staff, who had seen her grow up and had almost become family to her, did their best to guide her further. Lyra has promised herself that she will follow in the footsteps of her father as best she can, so to honor him and their family legacy. The only problem with this? Her father was a horrible king. The reason she was never allowed to wander outside the palace for long was because the rest of the kingdom was often miserable and poor, almost to the point of collapse. All of this misery was hidden from Lyra her whole life, until now. She simply believes that the panic was caused from the sudden death of the king... And the palace staff are hesitant to tell her otherwise. They know Lyra loved her father with all of her heart... What would she do if she suddenly found out how horrible he really was? They simply decided to wait for the right moment to come. Until then, Lyra is simply doing her best to become a respectable queen. |
