Blushing Pink Rose

The summer had been hot and dry on the plateau, something that the draconic denizens and local flora and fauna were used to, of course. However, the climate hadn’t been nearly as forgiving to the non-native life of the area. While others’ exotic gardens had wilted and dried under the sun, their flowers dulling and drying before even reaching the time for them to bloom, one plant seemed all the more vivacious for it. The plant’s leaves stretched wide and free, and its rose blooms almost seemed to glow with a soft pink color.

It was to no one's surprise that this plant stood tall when none else could, after all, it had one of the Plateau’s most dedicated gardeners looking after it. While it had started as a hobby for the dragon Golshan, the rose bush had quickly turned into a source of a special sense of pride and accomplishment.

The rose bush’s seed had been bought from a traveling caravan; while it had seemed dry and dead to any appraisers, something had told the Guardian that there was something special about it. Although it hadn’t been obvious at first, it was soon clear to everyone that this special plant was the Guardian’s long sought-after charge. He had planted it carefully in the dirt, and before long the stem had begun pushing its way through the soil. Each day he had tended to the plant as it grew and grew, often with the help of his familiar, but sometimes with the input and company of his two dear nieces as well. Now, under his constant care, the roses have grown to be a symbol of the entire clan, as well as proof of a Guardian’s eternal dedication to their charge.
